Brust to Play Lacrosse at Puget Sound

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Recent graduate Sarah Brust ’17 will play lacrosse for Puget Sound this fall.

Brust, who will study exercise science, was contacted by the Puget Sound coach after being accepted to the school. She had reached out originally earlier in her career but had decided to hang up her stick in college. As her high school career came to end this spring, she started having doubts.

“I am really excited about playing in college,” said Brust. “As the season was ending, I realized it was the last time I was going to play lacrosse. I was not ready to not play so to have the opportunity to play is really exciting.”

Puget Sound is a Division III school located in Tacoma, Wash. , and plays in the Northwest Conference.

Brust will join a Logger program coached by Carrie Sabochik. She finished her second year as the Loggers’ head coach in 2017, a season in which five Loggers earned All-Northwest Conference honors.

“It is a beautiful campus and I wanted to go to school in either Oregon or Washington,” said Brust. “I prefer colder weather over heat and I wanted to get out of California because my major is very impacted.”

Brust will join her sister, Ryanne, a 2014 graduate and player at Fort Lewis, in the collegiate ranks.

“They are a new team so they are still a growing program,” said Brust. “I want to play for fun so I am really excited.”

Brust was a two-year letter winner for the Troubadours and helped St. Francis to the CIF North Coast Section and Sacramento Valley Lacrosse League playoffs in 2017. She earned all-league honorable mention honors as a senior.

“Overall it was the family (feeling) and community,” said Brust about playing for the St. Francis lacrosse program. “I always felt very accepted and got along with everyone.”

Brust is the 19th Troubadour to commit to play sports in college this fall from the Class of 2017. She is the third Troubadour lacrosse player that will continue playing in college, joining Sarah Westover (USC) and Grace Passantino (Tennessee Wesleyan).
