LLS Students of The Year

News

We recently heard some fantastic news from seniors Kate Fitzgerald and Marisa Christopulos! This past year they competed in the Student of the Year campaign for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and were recognized as one of the top 5 student fundraising teams in the nation – out of thousands of teams! They along with their team raised more than 182,000 in just seven weeks.

Because of their phenomenal efforts, they were invited to attend a conference in New York City, to talk about research grants with the LLS National Board, along with the few other top fundraisers and researchers. They were very exited to meet some of the scientists and researchers who are coming out with new cutting edge research. This week, we heard from Kate about the trip, and she shared a few photos with us!

Kate shared that she was able to meet the president of The Leukemia and Lymphoma society nationwide (pictured). As well as meet and socialize with their head scientists and researchers, hearing about their new cutting edge discoveries against Acute Myelogenous Leukemia.

“This was a fairly small event, with less than 100 people invited. So it was super easy to have time to talk to the medical professionals about their research and have them teach me a little about what they actually do on a daily basis, along with asking as many questions as I wanted!

I actually had the chance to talk to professors and researchers at Yale and Harvard, along with listening to a panel of 6 scientists and doctors behind blood cancer breakthroughs.

The best few days of my life! So inspired!”

We are inspired by the both of YOU! Congrats to Marisa & Kate.
