Softball Falls to Sheldon in Delta League Game

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Bella Valentine homered and sophomores Chloe Smith and Sydney Littles had two hits each before Sheldon broke open a close game to defeat St. Francis 19-6 on Tuesday.

“It felt good (to get the home run),” said Valentine. “At first I did not think it was going to go out. But I felt like I got all of it.”

St. Francis (7-9) led 3-1 after the first highlighted by Valentine’s second home run of the season.

“We were really hitting the ball well,” said Valentine of the early success. “We were finding the gaps and getting on.”

Sheldon rebounded in the top of the second, scoring four runs to retake the lead. The Troubies stayed in the game with one in second. Rhyann O’Mara had a run scoring double to cut it to 5-4. The Huskies added one in the third and three in the fourth to go up 9-4 but sf added two more in the bottom of the getting to cut into the deficit.

“They got a couple good hits and the momentum switched to them,” said Valentine.

Sheldon broke open the game in the fifth with a 10-run inning. They finished with 16 hits and six extra-base hits, including three home runs.

“We have to come out ready against Franklin on Thursday and play our hardest,” said Valentine.

First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
