SHINGLE SPRINGS, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball team remained perfect in Delta River League play with a 3-0 win over Oak Ridge Wednesday night. The Troubadours won 25-23, 25-16, 25-19 to move to 5-0 in league play and 22-5 overall.

“They are a very good team,” said Head Coach Alynn Wright. “They have a lot of weapons and play good, scrappy defense and they served tough.”

Oak Ridge and St. Francis both entered the match 4-0 in Delta River League play.

The Trojans led early 7-3 before St. Francis settled into the match. The Troubadours would tie the game at 12 and then win seven of the next eight points to take command of the game. Despite a late rally, the Troubadours won 25-23.

“There are a lot of things we can do better like not miss as many serves,” said Wright of the nine service errors. “But I liked our defense and many of their points were unforced errors.”

St. Francis won the second game 26-16 and clinched the match with a 25-19 victory in the third.

Halfway through league play, Wright is looking for continued improvement out of her squad.

“We need to continue to push ourselves at practice and focus on what we need to do on our side of the court,” said Wright. “We need better free ball passing and better execution carrying into the home stretch.”

Chloe Hakim led the team with 20 digs, while Megan Sullivan had 16 kills against the Trojans.

“It feels really good,” said Hakim. “We are accomplishing our goals but still working hard and expecting great matches in the future. We are taking them one at a time.”

After playing nine of the last 10 overall away from home, the Troubadours play four of five matches and the Super 8 Invitational at home over the final three weeks of the regular season.

“I am very excited because it feels like we have been gone for so long,” said Hakim. “I am excited to get back in our gym.”

The Troubies host Ponderosa on Monday and Folsom on Wednesday next week at the St. Francis Gymnasium.
