SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball team swept Cosumnes Oaks Tuesday 25-18, 25-17, 25-12 to remain undefeated in Delta League play.

“We knew they were going to be one of the hardest competitors in league for us,” said junior All-American Alexa Edwards. “They are a really good team so we had to step it up and we had an intense focus. We played as hard as we could against them.”

Edwards had a team-best 16 kills while hitting 32.4 percent on the night, adding five digs and an ace to the winning effort.

“I thought we played very well defensively,” said Head Coach Alynn Wright. “We did an incredible job covering our hitters and they felt confident to go up and take swings against a big strong block. We did a great job covering and found holes in their defense.”

Wright credited middle blocker sophomore Chloe Henning and junior Lara Chappuie for the efforts in the win.

“I thought Chloe did a great job,” said Wright. “She has been struggling a little bit getting her arms up and pressing in time. Tonight it clicked for her and she did a really good job. When you establish the block it makes it easier for the defense behind you. Both Chloe and Lara did a really good job with it. They did a great job contributing with their block.”

Henning and Chappuie, who added three kills, joined Edwards and senior Kathryn Kramer with two blocks on the night.

“We had a game plan and we stuck to it,” said Henning. “Our front row defense was doing a good job funneling to our back row defense.”

Junior Jesiree Moral and sophomore Ellie Eichhorn combined for 27 assists in the contest and 20 points on serve.

“Offensively the setters did a good job moving the ball” said Wright. “We are getting there. I am excited about that.”

The Troubies have now won six consecutive overall, improving to 16-2 on the season with a 5-0 mark in league play. It was the 22nd consecutive league for SF over the last three seasons.

“We have been practicing really hard for this team and it was a great win for us,” said Henning.

SF is on the road for the next four league matches starting with Franklin on Thursday.

The freshman and junior varsity teams also posted sweeps with 2-0 wins earlier in the night.
