Water Polo Opens Season at Saint Francis Autumn Invite

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – The St. Francis water polo team opened the 2018 season at the Saint Francis Autumn Invitational, posting a 1-3 record to finish 12th overall in first tournament of the year.

The Troubadours defeated St. Ignatius 8-2 on Friday afternoon behind three goals by junior Alyssa Jacobsen, who tallied five goals on the weekend.

St. Francis opened the tournament held at Saint Francis Mountain View and Sacred Heart on Friday against Arroyo Grande, losing the opener 6-1 with the lone goal coming from Zoe Sloat. The Troubies rebounded in the afternoon game against SI as five players scored. Junior Kendall Houck tallied two goals and sophomore Libby Slater, sophomore Emma Johnson and Hayley Hoang scoring.

On Saturday, the Troubies lost both games by a single goal. Archbishop Mitty edged St. Francis 7-6 at Sacred Heart. Slater and Houck each scored twice and Sloat and Jacobsen each scoring.

In the finale Saturday afternoon, the game went overtime after ending in regulation in a 6-6 tie. Houck scored two times, finishing with a team-best six goals. Sloat, Slater and Jacobsen each scored and junior Allie Belafsky recorded her first goal.

St. Francis hosts St. Mary’s in their home opener on Wednesday at the Jesuit High School pool. The varsity match is scheduled for 6 p.m.
