Athletics News 12/4/15
The winter season highlights the basketball program at St. Francis. The JV and varsity teams will host Kennedy on Tuesday, December 8, and both the freshmen and junior varsity teams play in tournaments this week. The frosh team will play in the Bella Vista JV Tournament December 10-12, while the JV team compete in the Robby Nakamura JV Tournament at Kennedy. Water Polo’s Ally Tambornini in Sports Illustrated’s Faces in the Crowd
St. Francis senior, Ally Tambornini, is among the six athletes featured in the Faces in the Crowd segment of this week’s edition of Sports Illustrated. Cleveland Cavaliers star, Lebron James, is on the cover of the December 7, 2015 edition. Read about her Faces section here.
Cross Country Earns Top-10 State Finish
The St. Francis cross country finished eighth at the CIF State Cross Country Championships held at Woodward Park Saturday. It was the fifth consecutive Top 10 finish for the Troubadours at the state meet. Read the complete release here.
Water Polo’s Elle Minor Named SportStars’ SportsStar of the Week
St. Francis senior goalie Elle Minor was named the SportStar of the Week in the November 25 edition of SportStars. Minor helped the St. Francis Water Polo team to the Sac-Joaquin Section championship on November 14, holding the Davis Blue Devils to five goals in a 6-5 win. Click here to see the magazine feature.
Basketball Team to Play Davis at Sleep Train Arena
The St. Francis varsity basketball team will play Davis on Friday, January 8 at Sleep Train Arena at 6 p.m. The game will be part of a doubleheader with the Jesuit- Davis boys game tipping off at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the game can be purchased online for $30 and includes a ticket to the February 29 Sacramento Kings game against the Oklahoma Thunder. Three Water Polo Players Garner All-Section First Team
The St. Francis water polo team was well represented on the Sac-Joaquin Section teams selected by the area coaches, earning three first-team members and three second-team choices. Overall, the Troubadours had eight student-athletes earn all-section accolades. Read the complete release here.
Returning Lacrosse Players Meeting
There will be a meeting for returning varsity lacrosse players on December 10 from 4-5 p.m. in Room 321.
Attention Soccer Players: Interest Meeting Set for Dec. 8 at 3 p.m.
Soccer Head Coach Maryclaire Robinson will host a soccer information meeting for ALL interested in trying out for soccer in the spring 2016 season on Tuesday, Dec. 8 at 3 p.m. in the Old Cafeteria.
Get to Know: Basketball’s Marlee Nicolos
Marlee Nicolos is playing her first full season on the varsity after being called up last year. She plays soccer for the San Juan Soccer Club and was a standout for the St. Francis freshmen team last year. She played in Surf Cup this past weekend in San Diego.
