CHANDLER, Ariz. – St. Francis was out-scored 25-5 in the fourth quarter as Warren broke open a close game to defeat the Troubadours 66-40 Saturday afternoon in the Nike Tournament of Champions.

“We have to continue to work on our passing and our control of the ball under pressure,” said Head Coach Vic Pitton.

Kyle Huffman scored a game-high 14 points for the Troubadours.

“Kyra really embraced her role and was the most effective player we had on the court,” said Head Coach Vic Pitton. “Kudos to her for really stepping up, we needed her and she pulled through.”

Susie Rogers added nine points and eight steals, while Abby Dow scored six points and grabbed nine boards. Lauren Craig recorded a team-best 11 rebounds.

“I did not play so well yesterday so I told myself I was going to put all I had on the line today,” said Huffman.

Warren opened the game on a 9-0 run and led by 10 points early in the first quarter. St. Francis went on an 8-0 run to get back in the lead but trailed 30-21 at the half. Huffman scored nine of her 14 points in the first half.

The Troubadours opened the half with a 9-2 run to cut the lead to 32-30 and trailed by six entering the fourth (41-35).

“In the middle part of the game we started handling their pressure better, especially in the third quarter,” said Pitton. “I thought we made a nice run. We had the momentum but we could not sustain it.”

Warren then went on a 13-0 run to put the game of reach for St. Francis.
St. Francis (6-6) enters the holiday break, going 1-2 in the Nike Tournament of Champions. They return to action on Jan. 7 by playing host to Chavez. The freshman game starts at 4:00 p.m.
