ELK GROVE, Calif. – Pleasant Grove had three players in double figures in posting a 52-42 victory over St. Francis Thursday night in Delta River League action.

Susie Rogers scored a team-best 16 points behind four three-pointers to lead the Troubadours. Sophomore Lauren Craig posted her ninth double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Five other players each contributed two points.

St. Francis (12-7, 2-1) led at halftime 20-17 but the Lady Eagles took control of the game with a strong third quarter and closed with 18 points in the fourth. Kim Schmelz led Pleasant Grove with a game-high 19 points while teammates Jessica Phu and Aaliyah Pena each added 13 points.

“We missed some of our defensive rotations in the zones,” said Head Coach Vic Pitton. “The guards were working hard but the forwards did not give them the relief that they needed. Then we went on dry spell.”

The Troubadours made a late run in the fourth. Rogers got back-to-back baskets to cut the lead to four points but the Lady Eagles answered on the other end.

“We needed one more basket to really make them feel the pressure,” said Pitton. “We battled. But we just did not do the job tonight. We learn more from when we lose than when we win. They have a good attitude.”

St. Francis was hurt by a 4-for-11 night at the charity stripe and 17 turnovers.
Pleasant Grove improved to 14-6, 2-1 in the DRL.

The Troubadours return home for pair of games next week, hosting Oak Ridge and Folsom.
