SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Three players scored in double figures among six with seven or more points as St. Francis got back on the winning track with a 70-40 win over Sheldon. The Troubadours improved to 10-5 on the season and 1-3 in Delta League play.

“It felt real good to get our first league win,” said Head Coach Vic Pitton. “We put in a new defense and the girls did a really good job of incorporating it into the plan. I thought they played with a lot of energy and they played together tonight.”

Junior Lauren Craig led the team with 15 points, while juniors Angie Ortiz and Aliyah Williams each contributed 10 points in the win.

“We kept up the energy throughout the game and maintained our composure on defense,” said Craig. “It felt amazing because it really boosted our confidence.”

St. Francis broke open a close game with a 24-point second quarter to build an 11-point advantage at the half. Three players hit triples in the quarter and Ortiz scored five points.

The Troubies continued the strong play out-scoring the Huskies 23-5 in the third. Senior Maureen Cobile added a three as part of her seven-point night and sophomore Janae Fairbrook also hit from deep to complete her eight-point night.

St. Francis returns to the court on Saturday with a 4 p.m. non-league game at Kennedy.
