Basketball Loses Presidents Day Matinee to Clovis West

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Clovis West posted a 76-41 victory over St. Francis Monday afternoon in a Presidents Day non-league matinee.

“We played an outstanding team that will have a chance to compete for the state title,” said Head Coach Vic Pitton. “They showed where we have some deficiencies and were able to exploit them. We competed hard and did not give up.”

The Troubadours played a tough first quarter, staying with the Golden Eagles for the first eight minutes. Seven players scored in the first that ended tied at 15.
Clovis West then went on a 19-0 run in the second quarter to break open a close game. Sophomore Angie Ortiz ended the drought with two free throws with 2:32 left in the half that sparked a 6-0 run. The teams went into the locker rooms with Clovis West leading 37-22.

Cal Poly signee Emily Anderson led the Golden Eagles with 24 points.

Senior guard Abby Dow led the scoring for the Troubadours with a team-best nine points. Kyra Huffman and Ortiz contributed eight points each. Junior guard Danika Bailey added five points.

St. Francis (15-11) closes out the regular season Tuesday night at Folsom. The Troubadours are 5-4 in Delta River League play and have clinched third place. They will look to end the regular season on a winning note heading into the postseason after dropping three straight.

All three levels play their final regular season games Tuesday starting with the freshman at 4 p.m. The JV teams meet at 5:30 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 7 p.m.
