SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis senior diver Tiffany Wong will join the UC San Diego diving team next fall.

“I really loved the city of San Diego,” said Wong. “I loved how together the team was and it reminded me of St. Francis and my club team. It really felt like a family. I like that togetherness.”

Wong is the second Troubadour to join the Triton program, joining Patty Sullivan ’14 on the roster.

The dive and swim team is super nice and friendly,” said Wong.

Wong will compete for Michelle Casillas, who is in the sixth year of her second stint as the diving coach at UC San Diego in 2015-16. Both the UCSD men’s and women’s squads won their seventh consecutive Pacific Collegiate Swimming & Diving Conference (PCSC) titles in 2015. Casillas took four of her divers, three men and then-sophomore Allyson Cohen, to the 2014 NCAA Championships.

Wong won the Delta League diving competition in 2014 with a personal-best winning total of 468.00 for her 11-dive total as St. Francis swept the top four spots in the varsity competition.

“It was nice surprise that I won that meet,” said Wong, who earned All-Delta League for her performance. “It really boosted my confidence.”

Wong, who went on to finish eighth at the Sac-Joaquin Section Diving Finals, has been diving since the summer before her sophomore season, coming to the sport with her gymnastics background. She enjoys competing for her school.

“It means a lot that I can represent my school at our diving meets,” said Wong. “It is a fun experience.”

Wong competes year round with her coach Dede Crayne, who runs Capital Diving.

“She is really supportive and encouraging,” said Wong. “She is a great coach and I love her.”

Wong is undecided on her major but plans to go with a pre-med track.

“I am very excited,” said Wong. “I really enjoy diving. It should be a lot of fun.”

She will participate in the St. Francis Collegiate Commitment Celebration on Wednesday, Nov. 11.
