ELK GROVE, Calif. – Nicole Frank scored a game-high 21 points to lead the St. Francis freshmen team to a 67-34 victory over Granite Bay Saturday afternoon to win the Cosumnes Oaks Winter Shootout. The Troubadours also won games over Hughson and Antelope on the way to the title.

“It was all team,” said Frank after the game. “We have good chemistry. It is all passing and we easily made these baskets.”

Frank, who scored 13 points in the semifinal Friday, made it look the easiest on the team. She scored 13 points in the first half as the Troubadours built 33-20 lead. Adrienne Graybill and Isabella Quiniola each added seven in the first half.

“They kept their composure under pressure,” said Head Coach Ray Poncini. “They played with a lot of heart and we had a few girls step it up as leaders on the team.”

The Troubadours held the Grizzlies to just 12 second half points to break the game open in the second half.

Quiniola had four second half three-pointers to fuel the winning effort, finishing with 19 points for the game.

“She caught fire in the third quarter to get her rest and she said her shot was terrible right now,” said Poncini. “Assistant coach Jasmine and I told her to keep pumping them up. She has to learn to trust her shot. It was a great performance.”

Frank was named to the all-tournament team for the Troubadours, scoring nine baskets en route to her second 20-point effort of the season.

“It feels good but I could not have done it without my team helping to it,” said Frank.

Poncini said Frank’s positioning helps her get to the basket.

“She gets herself in the right position and when she gets the ball she is ready to attack the hoop,” said Poncini. “She gets a lot of foul calls as well to get the free throw line.”

Graybill finished with 15 points and teammate Morgan Kaeser added 10 as the Troubadours improved to 5-2 on the season.

“We really worked as a team,” said Frank. “Our shooters were on. My teammates are really good.”

St. Francis will return to the court after the holidays with a tournament hosted by Chavez High School in Stockton.

“They have started to believe in themselves and have confidence,”” said Poncini. “The first game they played scared and intimidated. After a few games, they are starting to see they can play at a high level.”
