Fresques to Play Volleyball at Point Loma Nazarene

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis senior volleyball player Ashlynn Fresques has committed to play volleyball at Point Loma Nazarene in San Diego.

“I chose the school because I love the location in San Diego and when I visited I loved the team and the coaches,” said Fresques. “It is still really competitive but it is a fun Division II program.”

Fresques is in her first year at St. Francis after transferring from Christian Brothers. She has been a starter for the Troubadours since completing her mandatory sit-out period per the section transfer rules.

“It was tough,” said Fresques. “I do not like sitting on the bench but I learned a lot from the game watching. I could see how to control the ball better and what spots are open and how to use the block.”

She has had to adapt to everything from a new school to different uniforms.

“It is kinda weird I am not going to lie,” said Fresques. “I have been in blue and white for the last three years. Here I am in red and black. I like it.”

She will play for the Sea Lions of Point Loma Nazarene next year. She wants to study pre-med and become a nurse. She will play for Jonathan Scott, who is in his second season directing the program. The Sea Lions went 19-9 in his first season and finished third in the PacWest Conference.

“You don’t have the major stress (at a Division II program) and I hopefully can go in and start as a freshman. If you go to a bigger school, you might not get the opportunity to start. It is a great fit for me.”

St. Francis will start the playoffs next week with Fresques leading the way.

“We are really working on our teamwork right now and getting our communication down on the court,” said Fresques.

Fresques will participate in the St. Francis Signing Day Celebration at 9 a.m. on November 11.
