SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Kyra Huffman had 18 points and Janae Fairbrook added 12 as St. Francis won a key Delta League road game at Sheldon Friday night.

St. Francis improved to 6-5 in league play and 16-7 overall, while Sheldon dropped to 5-6 in league play. The Troubadours are tied with Monterey Trail for third overall in the standings.

St. Francis jumped out to lead with a strong first quarter. Huffman scored 10 of her 18 points over the first eight minutes as the Troubadours build a 15-7 lead. The Huskies fought back in the second with the three ball, cutting the deficit to 22-17 at the break.

“We rotated well in the 1-3-1,” said Pitton. “We gave them a few looks in the corner but we were able to make a few adjustments to that to get out on them. The girls did a good job on that.”

Fairbrook nailed three straight triples in the third as St. Francis opened with a 13-0 run to build their lead to 18 points. Sheldon hit three more three-pointers to stay in the game.

“We were all playing together and we came out really strong,” said Fairbrook, who hit four triples on the night. “We had a good talk at halftime about communicating more and picking it up on defense.”

Junior Yvonna Molodanof hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to end the third period. It was a shot that killed the Huskies comeback momentum.

“Yvonna’s three was definitely a dagger into their spirit,” said Pitton. “They were winded and our defense was getting out on them. I am very proud of them.”

Sheldon did not hit a basket the rest of the game and made just a single free throw over the final eight minutes.

“We are coming off the win Wednesday and we had a lot of momentum,” said Huffman. “It pushed us into overdrive.”

Huffman finished with a game-high 18 points, while Molodanof and Lauren Craig each added six points.

“I thought Kyra was outstanding tonight,” said Pitton.

Huffman added two baskets in the fourth to total eight second half points.

“Offensively we were hot and cold but defensively we held them to 32 points and they made eight threes,” said Pitton.

St. Francis plays on the road again on Tuesday at Franklin.
