SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis out-scored Granite Bay in the second half but was unable to erase the first half deficit as the Grizzlies prevailed 15-10 on a rainy night at Mather Sports Center.

“I think we came out and started meshing as a team,” said Maggie Anderson. “We really pulled together and started to us that. Especially since it is Granite Bay, we wanted to beath them so we came out strong in the second half. We will get them next time.”

Sophomore Maggie Anderson and freshman Sarah Westover each scored three times for the Troubadours. Sophomore Erika Palmer added two goals and sophomore Mia Bonini and junior Hayley Kusserow also scored.

St. Francis kept the score close early as Hayley Kusserow tied the game at 1 but Granite Bay posted consecutive three-goal unanswered stretches to build a 7-2 lead. 8-Anderson and Westover scored back-to-back goals to cut the deficit to 4.

“Ultimately, it was draw controls,” said Anderson. “We have had problems getting the balls off of the ground and gave them a couple chances to pick it up. We stepped it up in the second half, picked up the intensity and started getting the draw controls.”

Granite Bay answered with two goals and led at the break 11-5. St. Francis scored three late goals, cutting the final score to 15-10.

The Troubadours host Bella Vista on Friday night at 5:30 (JV) and 7:30 p.m. (Varsity).
