Soccer Falls to Woodcreek in Section Quarterfinals

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – The St. Francis soccer team lost 2-0 to No. 4 seed Woodcreek in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I playoffs on Thursday.

“I thought we came out a little flat and they came out ready to go,” said Head Coach Maryclaire Robinson. “The first one was a little easy and we made some adjustments. We then had a game and had some good chances. We played them tight and the last one was poor housekeeping on our part.”

The Timberwolves opened the scoring with a goal off a header in the third minute of the game and added an insurance goal late in the second half, ending the Troubadours season.

“Given we have a new team, I feel good about our result,” said Robinson. “We fought hard and I was most impressed with our fix after coming out flat and then getting back in the game. It shows a lot of character and that is where the seniors came into play and helped us be better.”

St. Francis says good bye to 13 seniors from the Class of 2016.

“The seniors and captains set a good standard for what it takes to be successful in the playoffs,” said Robinson. “It is a great group of people.”

Senior Hailey Barrett led the team with 11 goals and six assists. Freshman Janae DeFazio added eight goals and a team-best eight assists. St. Francis finishes 14-4-4 overall.

Woodcreek advances to play No. 1 seed Davis next week, a 5-0 winner over Kennedy. Other winners on Thursday included Franklin-EG (6-0 over Wood) and Rocklin (2-1 over Pleasant Grove).
