Softball Closes Regular Season with Win Streak

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis softball team closed the regular season with a three-game win streak.

The Troubadours finished the regular season with a 14-4 win over Grant on Wednesday. Mel Baccay went 4-for-5 with two RBI and Sydney Littles added four hits and scored three runs in the win. Shelby Tevis and Hannah Willover each added two hits.

The program celebrated their seniors on Wednesday with an 8-3 come-from-behind win over Monterey Trail.

“It shows how much we have grown since the beginning of the season,” said senior Akeylah Moses. “We were underestimated and people though they were going to walk all over us. We turned things around and finished as a team.”

Senior Emily Ainsley went the distance, allowing three runs on six hits over seven innings. She recorded three strikeouts without allowing a walk. Despite the strong results, the start was shaky. Ainsley allowed three runs in the top of the first on three hits and a hit by pitch. But she settled to record a strike out and induce an inning-ending double play.

“I was kinda nervous with a lot of mixed emotions,” said Ainsley. “I just needed to focus with all the emotions going on in my head.”

She posted six straight scoreless innings while allowing just three hits the rest of the way.

The Troubadours rallied to score two in the bottom of the first. But the team did not take the lead until exploding for three in the fifth and three in the sixth to take control of the game.

“It started off a little different than I anticipated,” said Moses. “We picked it up and we finished strong. Emily did a great job.”

Shelby Tevis led the offense with two hits and two RBI, while Baccay was 1-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.

The five seniors were recognized prior to the first pitch.

“It is really exciting to have my last home game here,” said Ainsley.
