SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Akeylah Moses went 3-for-3 and Emily Ainsley pitched five scoreless innings to lead St. Francis to a 10-0 victory over Monterey Trail on Friday. The league game was sandwiched between games at the Tracy Tournament over the weekend.

“We did a lot better job communicating and hitting,” said Moses. “We were communicating what we saw at the plate. We were working as a team better.”

The Troubadours jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Moses had a run-scoring single and Rhyann O’Mara added another run with a single, scoring Lauren Washburn.

St. Francis exploded for six runs in the second to blow open the game. After three runs had scored, O’Mara doubled home two runs and Hannah Willover followed with a run-scoring double.

“We started out strong, got good momentum and kept it going,” said O’Mara.

St. Francis added single runs in the third and fourth innings to extend the lead to 10 runs.

Ainsley allowed only two hits over five innings to record the shutout victory.

“She was very consistent and hit her spots,” said Assistant Coach Ken McGuire. “She did a good job out there. She never really got in trouble, defended her position well and swung the bat well. She had a good day overall.”

St. Francis has one more league game at Grant on Wednesday to finish the first half of the league schedule.

“We are 3-3 now in league,” said McGuire. “We start the second half week after next so we are looking for a strong second half.”

Moses had three hits, scored two runs and knocked in one run. O’Mara went 2-for-3 with three RBI.

“It was a good push off and bounce back to get our confidence back,” said Moses.
