SACRAMENTO, Calif.  – The St. Francis softball team rallied to take a 4-2 lead and was tied heading into the final inning before the Huskies prevailed 9-5 on Wednesday.

“We are disappointed with how things turned out but I thought the girls battled and got ahead,” said Head Coach Kevin Warren. “If we had a couple of shut down innings, the outcome could have been different.”

The Troubadours rallied for four runs in the fourth to overcome an early two-run deficit. Ellie Chiappe knocked in two runs with a double and SF added a run on a wild pitch and single by Shelby Tevis.

“We have been swinging our bats and putting the ball in play to make things happen,” said Warren. “We just have to get it done defensively.”

The Huskies scored three in the fifth to knock out starter Jada Kanemasu and take a 5-4 lead. Freshman Chloe Smith tied the game in the sixth with a solo home run to deep center. But Sheldon scored four times in the seventh to end the upset bid.

Smith finished 2-for-2. Kanemasu went 4.1 innings, allowing four earned runs on nine hits in the loss.
