Softball Falls Twice on Saturday at Victory Tournament

ELK GROVE, Calif. – St. Francis lost in the semifinals in extra innings of the Victory Tournament Saturday afternoon 5-4 to Vacaville, falling for the first time on the season.

Vacaville scored once in the top of the eighth inning on a single by Brianna Dick and Katie Kirby pitched a scoreless final inning leaving the tying run on base.

The Troubadours opened a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning with. After loading the bases with two walks and a single by Alejandra Garcia, Amy Marks reached on an error to score the first run and Alexis Viramontes plated two runs with a single.

Vacaville responded with four runs in the top of the second aided by a St. Francis error and held the lead until the final inning. The Troubadours tied the game in the bottom of the seventh, scoring on a wild pitch.

Viramontes went 2-for-4 in the game with two RBI. Mel Baccay, Akeylah Moses and Garcia also had hits in the game. Marks took the loss, allowing five runs (one earned) on nine hits over eight innings.

St. Francis played again Saturday night in the consolation final, losing 14-5 to Pleasant Grove.

The Troubadours opened the tournament with three consecutive wins, improving to 5-0 on the season. St. Francis defeated Rodriguez (10-3) and Churchill (8-1) and McQueen 20-4 on Friday afternoon.

Viramontes went 4-for-4 at the plate with three triples, a double and 5 RBIs, while Garcia was 5-for-5 with 5 RBIs in the win over McQueen.

The Troubadours are off this week before opening league play against Ponderosa on March 27.
