Softball Opens Delta League Play with Two Wins

DAVIS, Calif. – The St. Francis softball team opened Delta League play with a pair of wins this week, defeating Pleasant Grove 12-10 on Wednesday and Davis 12-9 on Friday night.

St. Francis (6-4) jumped out to a 10-1 lead over Davis after four innings on the strength of a six-run fourth inning. Senior Danika Bailey started the inning with a triple and scored on a single by Mel Baccay. Shelby Tevis added a run-scoring single and the Troubadours took advantage of two errors and two wild pitches by the Blue Devils.

Davis knocked out starter Kelsea Williams who was relieved by Jada Kanemasu, who finished the game for the win.

Rhyann O’Mara had three hits and two RBI among six players with multiple hits in the contest.

In the Delta League opener on Wednesday, Bailey had four hits to lead the Troubadours. St. Francis also used a big inning, scoring six in the sixth to build a 12-4 lead before holding one for the 12-10 win.

Mel Baccay had three RBI, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a triple in the game. Hannah Willover and Kelsea Williams each added two RBI.

St. Francis hosts a pair of games this week starting with Elk Grove on Wednesday.
