ELK GROVE, Calif. – Senior Alejandra Garcia went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored to lead St. Francis to a 14-1 victory over Franklin in their season opener.

“It is always fun to jump on a team early,” said Garcia, who has signed with Cal Poly. “We have been putting in a lot of work offensively and it is fun to see every girl get a hit.”

The Troubadours were anxious to get the season started and kicked it off with a seven-run top of the first inning. The first six runners reached base safely and scored. Garcia plated two runs with a double and Akeylah Moses knocked in a pair with her double.

Megan Garren allowed just one run on one hit and no walks over four innings.

“She impressed me last year and this year she has done the same so far,” said Garcia. “It is the first game but I think it is going to be a great season for her. She has control of her pitches and we have great backup pitchers if she gets in trouble.”

Emily Ainsley pitched a scoreless inning with two strikeouts to close out the game after five innings.

“I think I did OK but I could have done better,” said Garren. “Most of my pitches were on point so I am pretty proud of myself.”

Senior Amy Marks had a team-best three RBI, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Mel Baccay, Danika Bailey and Ryann O’Mara each added two hits in the 15-hit outburst.

Leading 7-1, St. Francis scored five more runs in the fourth inning and two in the fifth.

Bailey started the fourth with a walk and stole second. After Baccay flied out, Garcia singled and Marks followed with a double to score Bailey and Garcia. Rhyann O’Mara also knocked in a run and the Troubies added another on a passed ball.

Alexis Viramontes provided the key hit in the fifth with a triple to plate two runs.

The St. Francis JV team posted a 20-1 victory over Franklin Friday.

St. Francis plays again Saturday against Del Oro at 11 a.m. at St. Francis. The JV teams will also faceoff on the back field at 11 a.m.
