Softball Pulls Out 14-12 Win over Oak Ridge

EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. – Senior Amy Marks singled in two runs with two outs in the top of the seventh inning and closed out the game on the mound with a perfect seventh to help St. Francis to a 14-12 win over Oak Ridge Thursday night.

St. Francis (7-6, 2-3 DRL) trailed by five runs twice in the game before tying the game in the fifth, taking a lead in the sixth and finally overtaking the Trojans in the seventh.

Oak Ridge opened with six runs over the first two innings, running starter Megan Garren after 1.2 innings. Marks came in relief and slowed the Oak Ridge attack enough in a game that featured 26 runs, 28 hits and five errors.

The Troubadours cut into the lead in the top of the third with a four-run inning sparked by two-run single by Alejandra Garcia, who went 3-for-4 with three runs scored in the contest. St. Francis added two more runs aided by back-to-back errors by the Trojans.

Oak Ridge pushed the lead to 9-5 with two runs in the fourth only to give up four again to the Troubadours in the top of the fifth. Alexis Viramontes singled in a run and Shelby Tevis hit a three-run home run to tie the game at nine.

Oak Ridge scored two more in the bottom of the inning but St. Francis responded again to take their first lead at 12-11 in the sixth. Marks had an RBI single in the inning followed by a run-scoring single by Tevis. Viramontes scored the go-ahead run on a ground by Bailey Boone.

Oak Ridge tied the game again in their half of the inning, setting up the decisive seventh. Garren and Rhyann O’Mara each walked and moved ahead on a ground out by Garcia before Marks singled in both runs.

Marks, who went 3-for-5 at the plate with 4 RBI, forced three straight ground outs to seal the game, earning the win with 5.2 innings out of the bullpen. Tevis finished with 4 RBI.

St. Francis returns to action Friday at the LeDoux Tournament against Vista del Lago at 9 a.m.
