SACRAMENTO, Calif. – In a battle of the top two teams in the Delta League standings, St. Francis swept Pleasant Grove Tuesday night to create a tie atop the standings at 7-1.

“I think we really meshed well as a team tonight,” said senior Anna Donald. “We played for each other. We did not just play as individuals.”

St. Francis came out fired up tonight, winning the first set 25-19, and was never really in danger of dropping a set.  The Troubadours won for the fifth consecutive match after recording 25-17 and 25-20 wins to sweep the contest.

Pleasant Grove posted a 3-1 win over St. Francis on Sept. 18, snapping the Troubadours league winning streak that dated back more than 15 years. The Eagles owned an eight-match winning streak entering the week.

“It was very important,” said Mary-Kate Schildmeyer of the rematch with Eagles. “It was on all of our minds. The love of the game did it for us tonight.”

St. Francis improved to 18-7 and 7-1 in the Delta, while Pleasant Grove dropped to 21-3 overall and 7-1.

“I am really proud of them tonight,” said Head Coach Alynn Wright. “We set some goals and have been working really hard since we lost to them. They responded to the goals that we made and have been practicing with a purpose.”

Senior Kylie Green had a double-double with team-best 10 kills and team-best 14 digs on the night, while classmates Schildmeyer and Lizzy Corfee added eight and six kills, respectively. Senor Marisa Gollnick recorded 25 assists on the contest along with eight digs and four aces.

“We still had a few too many errors than I like but we earned a lot more points,” said Wright. “It was a great team win. Everyone contributed and made plays at important times.”

St. Francis travels to Davis on Thursday.
