Track and Field Starts Championship Season

ELK GROVE, Calif. – St. Francis triple threat Ariane Arndt, Lilly Enes and Kiani Reyna were the top three qualifiers in the 400 meters as each qualified for a pair of events at the Delta League Trials held Friday night at the Sheldon-Franklin Community Track.

Overall, St. Francis qualified 12 runners in preliminaries held on Friday for next week’s finals. Relays and distance events will be added to the meet along with the remaining field events. In the finals contested, senior Juliana Cerezo-Rangel scored in the shot put on Friday, finishing seventh overall with a throw of 30-5.75.

Reyna was a double qualifier, advancing in the 200 with a fifth-place overall time of 25.79, while Enes was second overall in 25.79. Arndt, who is ranked ninth in the nation in the 800 meters, easily advanced in her signature event, winning her heat in 2:19.48.

Junior Meaghan Rogers advanced in the 100 meters in 12.97, the fifth-fastest time. Freshmen Sophie DeBenedetti (800m, 2:21.48), Serena Shimada (100m hurdles, 16.77) and Camille Enes (300m hurdles, 49.36) will also run next week.

Junior Elizabeth Hennessy qualified in both hurdle events, posting the second-fastest time in the 100m hurdles (16.38) and fourth-fastest in the 300m hurdles (46.40).

Top finishers in the other field event finals included senior Kristen Kopp in the pole vault (9th, 7-4) and junior Meaghan Rogers in the triple jump (9th, 33-1.25).

The Frosh/Soph event, sophomore Isabelle Rudis won the 100m hurdles (17.63) and was second in the 300m hurdles (49.67) and Ava Nkadi won the 400m (1:02.58) and was second in the 800m (2:36.23). Freshman Isabelle Grassel was third in the 100 meters.

Davis leads the team scoring after the three finals with 58 points. Delta League Finals will start at 2 p.m. on May 13 with the discus and high jump, followed by the long jump at 3:30 p.m.. Running events will start at 6 p.m.
