ROSEVILLE, Calif. – The St. Francis track and field team won four events and placed second in five others to post a commanding victory at the Glenn Poole Invitational Saturday.

“It was a good meet considering we are in our second week of the Easter Break,” said Head Coach John DuCray. “We try to get some work in and give the girls some time off. Now we have 3-4 weeks to get ready for the big stuff at the end of the year.”

St. Francis won the meet, easily out-scoring the other top schools in the field including Franklin, Reno and Sheldon.

“The win by the 4×100 relay gave the girls a lot of confidence,” said DuCray. “We had a good finish to the month and May is the time to get serious. We like to see the girls get season-bests and have smiles on their faces.”

Senior Kayla O’Brine set a meet record with a throw of 133-1 in the discus, breaking the meet record set by Lauren Guerrieri of Davis Senior in 2005. O’Brine also finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 33-10.

“It was nice to get some throws out there in the beginning and pick up the lead and some points for the team,” said O’Brine.

Junior Miranda Myers led a strong contingent of Troubadours in the 3200 meters, clocking a 11:22.2 as St. Francis placed three of the top four runners in the race. Aerial Medina was third in 11:49.01, while Chase Worthen was fourth in 11:54. 19.

Senior Amanda Schnabel won the 300-meter hurdles in 46.16 and was second in the 100m hurdles in 15.54.

The St. Francis 4×100-meter relay team clocked a season- and section-best 48.24 to win the race, edging rival Franklin (48.30). Sophomore Kiani Reyna, who was sixth in the 200m, led off followed by classmate Lillian Enes. Ariane Arndt ran the third led, handing off to junior Sydney Hunter to close out the race.

“Franklin is one of our bigger rivals in the section so winning today was a really big accomplishment,” said Hunter after finishing second in the 200-meter dash (25.85). “Our goal today was to get the stick thru the zone quick and make it to finish with everyone taking their marks and leaves at the right point.”

Arndt also recorded a pair of second-place finishes in the 400m (58.87) and 800m (2:19.13).

Junior Samantha Ruggles was second in the shot put with a mark of 38-5, breaking her own school record for the second consecutive meet, and finished seventh in the discus. Sophomore Nicole Spring was fourth I the long jump with a leap of 14-10.25.

Senior Madison Rawson finished off the running events with a second-place finish in the 1600 meters in 5:13.38.
