SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Three junior varsity players were promoted to the St. Francis varsity team by Head Coach Vic Pitton and junior Clare Brennan was activated effectively immediately. All four will be in uniform as the Troubadours take on Franklin on Tuesday.

Freshmen Megan Austin, Nika Bagatelos and Lauren Pank were all were brought up from the junior varsity team, while Brennan was serving as a manager while recovering from an injury.

“It is a huge achievement because I have been out for so long,” said Brennan, who was recovering from knee and back injuries. “It is the only thing I wanted to do was get back into it. Eleven months later I get my jersey back. It is a dream come true. I have wanted a jersey ever since they started practicing and I had to watch.”

Brennan averaged 5.4 points per game last season as a sophomore in 15 games on the JV team. She scored 15.3 points per game over the three previous games before she got hurt.

The Troubadours will also get a boost from the talented freshmen trio. All three have been standouts on the JV team this year in their first season in the program, helping the team to a 14-2 record.

Austin has averaged 6.1 points per game in 2015-16.

“It feels great and I am excited,” said Austin of the call-up. “It is a great opportunity for all three of us. I hope to bring a lot of heart and I will try my best to work hard.”

Bagatelos led the JV team with 10.2 points per game and is coming off a 24-point performance against Antelope on Saturday. She has scored in double figures in nine games on the season.

“It is really nice and I am happy Coach Vic asked us to move up,” said Bagatelos. “To play with these players and the harder competition (is great).”

Pank has averaged 7.3 points per game with five games in double figures.

“I am really excited to play with these girls,” said Pank. “I have seen them play and I have been looking up to them a lot.”

The St. Francis varsity team is 13-4 on the season with a 4-0 Delta League record.
