Volleyball Celebrates Seniors and Win over Grant
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – For one night, they were the queens of the court. The St. Francis volleyball team celebrated their nine seniors in a pre-game ceremony before posting a 25-5, 25-0, 25-9 victory over Grant to close out the 2014 regular season.
“It was a fun night,” said Head Coach Alynn Wright. “The seniors had fun and they played pretty well.”
The Troubadours opened the match with a 25-5 win in the first set before posting a 25-0 win in the second. Marissa Gollnick served out the complete game. The Troubadours closed out the match with a 25-9 win in the third.
Wright was able to pull each senior out individually to complete the recognition. The nine seniors were recognized before the match.
“It still has not clicked that this was our last league game,” said senior Anna Donald. “It was fun and I was glad we could finish out with a win.”
“It was fun to be able to recognize each of them,” said Wright. “I was really proud of the job the underclassman did for the seniors. It truly shows how much they admire them and respect them as leaders. They did a great job.”
St. Francis finishes the regular season with a 28-11 overall record with an 12-2 Delta League mark, finishing second overall in the standings.
“It was a good accomplishment,” said Wright. “We fell a little short of what our goal was but all that matters is November. We have been gearing up for this month all season long. Hopefully, we can continue to do what we have been doing in practice.”
The Sac-Joaquin Section playoff bracket will be announced on Wednesday.
