Volleyball Falls in Semifinals of High Sierra Invitational

RENO, Nev. – The St. Francis volleyball team lost in the semifinals of the High Sierra Invitational Saturday, falling in straight sets to Sonora 25-21, 21-9. It was their fifth match of the day and eighth overall in two days.

The Troubadours, who are ranked No. 3 in the Sacramento Bee preseason poll, went undefeated throughout the first seven games of tournament, dropping just two sets during that span. St. Francis opened perfect in Pool play on Friday, posting wins over Reno (25-14, 25-23), Woodcreek (26-24, 25-16) and Elk Grove (22-25, 25-17, 15-12).

On Saturday, St. Francis continued its strong play. They beat Sonora in three sets to open the day (26-24, 14-25, 15-9). The Troubies beat SRipon 25-17, 25-16 and Roseville 25-20, 25-19. After wins over Sonora and Yerrington, St. Francis advanced into the championship bracket.

In the semifinals, they lost to Sonora in the second matchup between on the schools on the day with a straight set loss 25-21, 25-9.

St. Francis returns to Sacramento for a tough three match test that includes the Foundation game at Oak Ridge on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Troubadours host Sacramento Bee No. 1 Christian Brothers on Wednesday and No. 2 Granite Bay on Thursday.
