ELK GROVE, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball team lost a tough 3-1 match at Pleasant Grove Thursday night, dropping their third straight overall in the Delta League opener for the Troubadours.

“We need to play better and eliminate our errors,” said Head Coach Alynn Wright.

The Troubies fell behind 2-0 but fought back to win the third 29-27. St. Francis erased two match points in a set that went back and forth with each team having a chance to win before closing it out to keep the chance for a comeback alive.

Tied at 18 in the fourth, Pleasant Grove was able to seal the win to claim the set 25-21. It snapped the St. Francis league win streak that dates back over 15 years to the 1990’s. St. Francis had won 104 straight league matches dating back to 2004, the latest individual match results are available.

Pleasant Grove opened the match with a 25-22 win in the first set. St. Francis led for the early part of the set but a long delay at the scorer’s table slowed the momentum. Pleasant Grove jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second en route to a 25-17 win.

St. Francis (9-5) returns home next week for a pair of matches starting Tuesday against new Delta League member Davis starting with the freshmen game at 4:30 p.m. The JV play at 5:30 p.m. followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.

The Freshmen team won 2-0 and the JV took a 2-1 victory in the other matches.
