SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball team opened the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs with a 3-0 win over Woodcreek Tuesday night.

“It was a good team win,” said Head Coach Alynn Wright. “Ashley Sutter was all over the place and Mary-Kate Schildmeyer and Lizzy Corfee had some nice swings.”

The Troubadours broke open a close game in the first set with an 18-4 run after it was tied at 7 in the early going.

“We are real focused,” said Wright. “Everything we have been working for has been for November. I have been real pleased how it is coming together. Tonight they played for each other.”

St. Francis won the second set easily 25-15 but trailed 13-12 in the third before closing it out for the victory.

Senior Anna Donald had a match-high 14 kills in the contest, while senior Kylie Green recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs. Ashley Sutter had 26 digs.

“I am really excited,” said Donald. “We came into the game really focused and all month we have had really good practices. It is the time we want to peak. We are doing it at the right time. Hopefully, we have a long season left.”

St. Francis advances to play Granite Bay on Thursday at St. Francis at 7 p.m.

“Our defense tonight was really good,” said Wright. “If we continue to play defense like that, it is what wins championships.”
