4×100 Relay Wins Thunder Invitational

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis 4×100 relay won the Thunder Invitational Saturday with a time of 49.61. The team of Ariane Arndt, Lillian Enes, Sydney Hunter and Kiani Reyna was the highlight of the meet for the Troubadours in an event with limited participation due to the rain throughout the day.

Reyna also ran in the 100 meters, finishing second overall with a time of 13.68. Hunter was 13th in the 400 meters in 1:05.14 just ahead of Ellie Linn in 14th in 1:05.53.

Basketball Program Hands out Honors at Banquet
Four Players Earn DRL Honors

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis basketball program held its annual banquet March 24 to recognize the successful seasons of the three teams and hand out the awards for the season.

Junior Susie Rogers was named the Outstanding Offensive Player on the varsity team. She averaged 9.6 points per game, the second-best total on the team, while recording 5.5 rebounds per contest and a team-best 3.2 assists. She scored in double figures in 13 games, including a season-high 21 points in the playoff win over Edison.

Track Performs Well at Bronco Distance Carnival

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Madison Rawson won the 1600 meters and was a member of the winning distance medley relay team to lead the St. Francis track and field team at the Bronco Distance Carnival Friday night.

Rawson led a strong contingent in the 1600, clocking a 5:12.73 to post the top time of the night. Junior Miranda Myers was fourth overall in 5:30.44, while junior Peyton Bilo was 12th in 5:32.09. Sophomore Chase Worthen was right behind in 5:36.74 and Mallory Shingle clocked a 5:38.65 to place 19th.

New Goalkeeper Coach Brings International Experience to St. Francis Soccer

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Simon Sheppard joined the St. Francis soccer coaching staff this spring, assisting Head Coach Rosella Kelly with the goalkeepers at all three levels of the Troubadour program.

“You build relationships with all the young ladies and it is about building that trust factor and believing what you are telling them,” said Sheppard. “The girls are very open-minded and will benefit from that. I love to develop young people.”

Lacrosse Wins Behind Kusserow’s Seven Goals

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Hayley Kusserow scored seven goals to lead St. Francis to a 15-7 victory over Redwood at Mather Sports Center Friday night.

The Troubadours won their second consecutive and improved to 5-5 on the season.

Kusserow powered a strong offensive attack that helped St. Francis hold a 9-7 lead at the half. The Troubadours posted a shutout in the second half, scoring six times. Junior goalie Maddie Merwin did not allow a goal in the second half and made 11 saves in the game overall.

Soccer Wins at Folsom with Goals by Cook, Gregg

FOLSOM, Calif. – Sophomore Meredith Cook and junior Anna Gregg both scored as St. Francis posted a 2-1 win over Folsom Thursday afternoon. With the win, the Troubadours improved to 13-1-2 and 2-0 in Delta River League action.

Cook put the Troubadours ahead with a goal in the first half, scoring her second goal of the season. Gregg added an insurance goal in the second half, recording her team-best 15th of the season. The goal proved beneficial as Folsom scored on a corner kick with under a minute to play.

Softball Falls to Ponderosa 1-0

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Megan Garren allowed just four hits over seven innings but Ponderosa squeaked out a 1-0 victory over St. Francis in the Delta River League opener Thursday for the Troubadours.

“She re-directed herself last week and decided it was time to step up,” said Co-Head Coach Al LoGiudice of the effort by Garren. “Today was a prime example. She was keeping the ball low. She pitched an awesome game and did a fantastic job.”

Albie Swingin’ for Life Softball Tournament Postponed

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Albie Swingin’ for Life softball tournament scheduled for Saturday, March 29 at St. Francis High School has been postponed due to the anticipated weather this weekend. The games will be re-scheduled at a later date.

The six schools participating in the breast cancer benefit sponsored by the Albie Aware Breast Cancer Foundation include Davis Senior, Christian Brothers, Pioneer, River City and host St. Francis.

Divers Sweep Top Three against Sheldon

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Patty Sullivan won her third straight diving competition with a 220.90 score against Sheldon Wednesday.

Sullivan helped the Troubadours sweep the top three spots in the event. Sophomore Tiffany Wong was second with a six-dive score of 213.50, while senior Allison Autrey was third with a 211.85 total.

St. Francis had five of the top six scores and seven of the top 10 overall. Sophomore Kristen Kopp was fifth (175.40) and junior Genevieve Cameron was sixth (165.40.

Sheldon Meet Canceled and Will Be Re-Scheduled

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis track and field meet at Sheldon has been canceled this afternoon due to the weather. The meet will be rescheduled at a later date, possibly April 30.

The Troubadours will return to action this weekend with a pair of meets starting at the Bronco Distance Carnival at Bella Vista High School on Friday at 4 p.m. and the Thunder Invitational at Rocklin High School Saturday.

Schaefer Records a Goal and Assist in Soccer’s Win over Ponderosa

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Rachel Schaefer scored a goal and assisted on a second to lead St. Francis to a 2-0 win over Ponderosa Tuesday afternoon to open Delta River League play.

The Troubadours and Bruins battled in a scoreless first half as goalie Mia Arostegui kept Ponderosa out of the net.

“I felt like we had control of the game,” said Head Coach Rosella Kelly. “We dominated more than they did but we could not find the back of the net in the first half. It was our main topic at halftime that we have to finish or it was going to be tough.”

Lacrosse Posts 21-1 Victory over Casa Roble

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Colleen McClain scored a game-high five goals to lead St. Francis to a 21-1 victory over Casa Roble. It was the first of five consecutive home contests for the Troubadours

“Today we really worked on our attack and the offensive side of the game,” said McClain. “We tried to run some plays which we still need work on but we got a lot better during this game.”

McClain was one of six players with multiple goals in the contest.

Swimming Has Strong Swims against Clovis West and Granite Bay

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Maddie Johnson recorded two top-three finishes in the tri-meet with Clovis West and Granite Bay on Wednesday, March 19.

Johnson finished second in the 200 IM in a time of 2:18.22 and touched the wall third in the 100 yard fly in 1:00.49.

Alyssa Tambornini was sixth in the 50-yard free in 26.12 with teammate Isabella Smith finishing seventh in 26.24. Tambornini also was seventh in the 100 free in 57.86, the top SF finisher in the event.

Divers Compete Against Ponderosa

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Patty Sullivan was the top finisher for the second consecutive meet, posting a six-dive score of 230.15. Senior Allison Autrey recorded a score of 228.30, while sophomore Kristen Kopp scored 188.15.

St. Francis was competing against Ponderosa.

Lacrosse’s Brust Commits to Fort Lewis

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis senior defender Ryanne Brust has committed to play lacrosse and attend Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo., next year.

“I am so beyond excited,” said Brust. “It seems unreal.”

Brust, who took up the game as a sophomore, was first seen at a tournament over the summer and recruited by the Fort Lewis coaching staff.

“I started playing as a sophomore so I never thought playing in college would be an option for me,” said Brust. “I went to a showcase in Colorado with over 100 college recruiters and got noticed.”

Lacrosse Loses to Tough Cal High Squad

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis lacrosse lost an 18-6 decision to Cal High Tuesday night at Mather Sports Center.

“We knew it was going to be a really good game,” said Wilson. “They are a very tough team. We decided it was going to be a game of little tiny wins and a goals game.”

The Troubadours opened the scoring with a goal by Hayley Kusserow. But Cal High ran off six straight and 13 total in the first half. Kusserow added a second goal for the Troubies in the first half.

Senior Jane Sadler scored twice and Meg Anderson and Colleen McClain added scores.
