Former Troubie Kristen Anderson Completes Sophomore Season at Caltech

PASADENA, Calif. – Former Troubadour Kristin Anderson just completed her sophomore season at Caltech in Pasadena, Calif. She led the team in rebounding for the second consecutive season, grabbing six boards per game and scoring 6.6 points per contest. The Beavers had a tough season (1-24) but Anderson played in all 25 games and started 21 contests on the season.

Soccer Rolls over Del Campo Behind Gregg’s Hat Trick

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Anna Gregg recorded a hat trick for the second time in four days and the Troubadour defense posted a shut out to record a 6-0 win over Del Campo Tuesday afternoon.

“We started a little slow but we picked it up,” said Gregg. “We completed some good passes, moved the ball great and found the outside mids. We crossed it in with a negative outside ball. It was exactly how it was supposed to look like and it was beautiful.”

Divers Post Strong Performance at Oakmont Invitational

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – The St. Francis diving team placed three divers in the top 10 at the Oakmont Invitational Monday. Overall, there were 12 teams and 42 divers competing in the event.

Junior Patty Sullivan was the top finisher for the Troubadours finishing with a six-dive total of 224.35 to finish third overall. She edged teammate senior Allison Autrey by a tenth of a point. Autrey placed third overall with a score of 224.25.

Track and Field Competes at Moore Relays

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis swept the throws and won two of the three jumps events at the Welton Moe Moore Relays hosted by Grant High School Saturday.

Samantha Ruggles won the shot put (34-11) and finished second in the discus (101-3), while Kayla O’Brine won the discus (123-7) and finished second in the shot (31-8). Samantha Carrothers placed fourth overall in the discus. Maggie Oys was fifth in the shot put.

Softball Falls Twice on Saturday at Victory Tournament

ELK GROVE, Calif. – St. Francis lost in the semifinals in extra innings of the Victory Tournament Saturday afternoon 5-4 to Vacaville, falling for the first time on the season.

Vacaville scored once in the top of the eighth inning on a single by Brianna Dick and Katie Kirby pitched a scoreless final inning leaving the tying run on base.

Soccer Falls in Christian Brothers Tournament Final

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Franklin defeated St. Francis in penalty kicks Saturday afternoon to win the Christian Brothers Tournament. It was the first loss for the Troubadours on the season.

“It was a great tournament,” said junior Anna Gregg. “We stuck it out and played hard. Our legs are tired and we played our hearts out. We are just unlucky it didn’t go in the goal.”

Lacrosse Closes Busy Week with Win over Palo Alto

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Ryleigh Bone scored three goals and junior goalie Maddie Merwin made two crucial saves in the final minute as St. Francis prevailed 14-13 over Palo Alto Saturday at Mather Sports Center.

“I think we did well,” said Bone. “We tried to spread it out and pass it around. Their defense is pretty good. We took advantage of opportunities to cut in and get the ball.”

Track Assistant Myers Wins Age Group at Napa Valley Marathon

NAPA, Calif. – St. Francis assistant coach Mason Myers won his age group and finished 14th overall in his debut at the marathon distance at the Napa Valley Marathon March 2. The Carmichael, Calif., resident clocked 2:45.45 after posting a 6:16 pace over the first half of the race and 6:20 over the back 13 plus miles.

Four Troubadours Post Impressive Results at Sac State Classic

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Four individuals kicked off the track and field season at the Sacramento State Track Classic Saturday.

Junior Samantha Ruggles had a personal-best in the shot put, recording the second-best individual performance in the event in school history with a throw of 37-7.5. She finished third in the event, while senior Kayla O’Brine was fourth with a throw of 36-00.5.

O’Brine won the discus with a best throw of 126-2 on her second attempt of the day. She out-distanced the rest of the field by almost 17 feet.

Marks Leads Softball to 9-8 Victory over Del Oro

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Amy Marks had five runs batted in and got the win on the mound as St. Francis defeated Del Oro in the home opener at Schuster Field on the St. Francis campus.

“I felt more solid yesterday but I am not disappointed in the fact I got a home run,” said Marks. “It could have been a better hit but I got it over, so that is good.”

Marks went 2-for-3 with 5 RBI and allowed eight runs (four earned) on 10 hits with three strikeouts in the complete game victory.

Softball Opens Season with Win over Franklin

ELK GROVE, Calif. – Senior Alejandra Garcia went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored to lead St. Francis to a 14-1 victory over Franklin in their season opener.

“It is always fun to jump on a team early,” said Garcia, who has signed with Cal Poly. “We have been putting in a lot of work offensively and it is fun to see every girl get a hit.”

Swimming Posts Win over Rio Americano

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis varsity swimming team posted a 96-90 victory over Rio Americano Thursday at Jesuit High School.

“It is always good local competition between good friends,” said Head Coach Richard Levin of the meet against Rio Americano. “You want to swim well against them. A lot of them are training partners and part of the same club teams. To swim well here is a good indicator for the rest of our season.”

Rio Americano defeated St. Francis by over 100 points and edged the Troubadours in the standings at the section meet last season.

Junior Anna Gregg Records Goal and Two Assists in Win

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Anna Gregg had a goal and two assists to lead St. Francis to a 3-1 victory over El Camino Tuesday afternoon.

“The first half was a little rough and a slow start,” said Gregg. “We picked it up in the second half and pulled out the victory.”

St. Francis improved to 5-0-1 on the season.

Senior Terra Carden scored for the second consecutive game on an assist from Gregg to open the scoring 10 minutes into the game. El Camino answered three minutes later on a goal by Jaqui Ortega to tie the game at 1.

Divers Finish First and Third against Rio Americano

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Allison Autrey posted a score of 220.95 to edge Rio Americano’s Choi, who scored 217.90, in the first diving meet of the season.

Sophomore Tiffany Wong (217.60) was third overall followed by Kristen Kopp. Genevieve Cameron and Katrina Yo rounded out the top five in the scoring.

The Troubadours will compete again March 12 at 4 p.m. at Capital Divers against Oak Ridge.

St. Francis Golfer MacDonald Commits to Chico State

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis golfer Ileana MacDonald has verbally committed to play golf at Chico State next fall.

“I am so excited,” said MacDonald. “I was sold on Chico when I went to visit the campus. It is a beautiful school.”

MacDonald is one of 25 Troubadours who have made commitments or signed during the previous National Letter of Intent signing periods to continue their athletic careers next year at the collegiate level.

“I got a chance to play with the team for a few holes,” said MacDonald. “I really meshed perfectly with them and the coach.”

Former Troubadour Water Polo Player Kolokotronis Earns Honor

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. – Brown women’s water polo freshman Marisa Kolokotronis (Sacramento, Calif.) received Rookie of the Week honors, it was announced by the Collegiate Water Polo Association league office on Tuesday.

Kolokotronis teamed with senior Kate Woods to power a dramatic 15-14 double overtime victory at George Washington on March 1. Kolokotronis tied her career high with three goals and grabbed two steals to help Brown improve to 4-4 on the season.

She has eight goals, seven assists and 11 steals on the season.

Softball Games at Franklin Moved Back to Friday

SACRAMENTO, CAlif. – The official start of the 2014 season will have to wait three more days. The St. Francis JV and Varsity softball games scheduled at Franklin have been postponed today. They have been re-scheduled for Friday at 4 p.m.
