Tennis Opens NorCal Tournament with a 9-0 Win

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team opened the season with a 9-0 win over St. Mary’s on Friday. The Troubadours swept all six singles and three doubles matches in straight sets.

No. 1 Myra Anwar, No. 5 Sam Sonntag and No. 6 Alex Evans all won their matches, dropping just a single game in the two-set wins. Alisha Anwar was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at No. 2 over Izzy Garcia, while Adithi Benush defeated Lauren Basso 6-1, 6-2. Izzy Asker posted a 6-1, 6-3 win over Taylor Basso.

St. Francis was equally impressive in doubles with juniors Peyton Spellacy and Bianca Ariza winning 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1. Senior Roya Pahlavan paired with freshman Safaa Umar for a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2, while Maddie Brown and Rosmy Alengaden were 6-4, 6-1 winners at No. 3 doubles.

St. Francis will face Folsom at 9 a.m. in the semifinals on Saturday morning at Folsom High School.
