Tennis Posts Shutout against Sheldon

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Freshman Alex Evans won her singles match at No. 6 singles without dropping a single game 6-0, 6-0 as St. Francis defeated Sheldon 9-0 on Thursday.

“It feels good to contribute,” said Evans. “When I came in I was expecting something a lot different. All the girls really want to be here and really put a lot of effort into the team. It makes me want to try harder.”

Evans is now a combined 13-0 on the season, including a 9-0 singles mark. She joins a talented freshman class that includes No. 3 singles Alisha Anwar and No. 1 doubles Izzy Asker in the regular lineup.

“I have been playing a lot of singles lately,” said Evans.

St. Francis was led by sophomore Adithi Benush, who was a 6-2, 6-0 winner at No. 1. Anwar posted a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2, while seniors Kyla and Kiya Jackson recorded victories at Nos. 3 and 4. Asker posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at no. 5.

In doubles, freshmen Emmy Goebels and Cassie Draper combined to win the best match of the day at No. 3 doubles, recording a 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-4) win. Sophomores Bianca Ariza and Sam Sonntag won at the top spot 6-0, 6-1, while junior Roya Pahlavan combined with freshman Rosmy Alengader to win 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2.

St. Francis travels to Franklin on Monday at Laguna Creek Racquet Club.
