Golf Defeats Monterey Trail in Preparation for Delta League Center

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Freshman Chase Saca and junior Leslie Young shot personal-best rounds of seven-over par 43 as the St. Francis golf team posted a season-best team score of 203 Monday in a forfeit win over Monterey Trail.

“I think my round went well,” said Saca. “The greens were aerated so they were hard to play on. I had some really good drives and shots.”

The Troubadours (6-1) posted their single-round best team score for the fifth time this season and third consecutive match overall heading into the second Delta League Center match at the Reserve in Stockton on Tuesday. The Reserve will host the second round of the section playoffs next month.

“Each day and practice we get better and better so our scores are going to get lower and lower,” said Saca, who was playing in her second career varsity round.

Junior Leslie Young also carded a 43 in the contest, posting her best nine-hole score by one stroke.

“I am really looking forward to the league match tomorrow,” said Young of the 18-hole event including all eight teams in the Delta League. “It is going to be great preparation.”

Junior Kate Swanson led the team with a one-over par 37, one stroke off her best nine-hole score. Senior Victoria Ramirez had a three-over par 39, while junior Mikia Fang posted a five-over par 41. Kristi Lee recorded a 45.

“Team bonding is always fun and brings closer together,” said Young. “Somehow our scores keep going lower when we all really united.”

The team will travel to Stockton on Tuesday. Ramirez and Swanson will post on the St. Francis social media accounts all day documenting their trip. Follow their posts via #TroubieTakeover on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
