SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomores Olivia Alcoran and Patricia Sweeney each carded a three-over par 39 to lead the St. Francis golf team to a win over Monterey Trail Wednesday at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex. The Troubadours posted a 203 team score but won the match by forfeit.

“It was pretty good for the first round,” said Alcoran. “I was doing really well with my putting and chipping and everything clicked today.”

Junior Lauren Libertore posted a 41 and freshman Ceci Fletcher recorded a 42. Junior Lauren Allen and freshman Nashla Aguero also posted rounds of 42. Alternate Chase Saca had the second-best round with a four-over par 40 and freshman Amanda Siy had a 45. Both players saw action due to Monterey Trail not fielding a minimum of five players.

The Troubadours return to action on Thursday with the first of three Delta League Center matches, playing 18 holes against a full field from the league at Rancho Murieta CC. Play begins at 11:30 a.m.

“I think we will do pretty well,” said Alcoran. “We have pretty strong players this year. We hope to shoot well, but regardless we will have fun out there.”

Junior Chase Saca had the second-best round with a 40. She was named the team captain for the season.

“It means so much,” said Saca of the honor. “I love being able to be a leader on a team that works so hard in their sport. I am super excited. Everyone loves each other and is super nice. I love this team.”

Saca organized the team’s ribbons for the first match.

“Chase brings the fun energy and unity to the team,” said Alcoran.

St. Francis is the defending Delta League champion and was undefeated during the 2015 season in dual and center league matches.
