Golf Wins Big over Elk Grove in Delta League Match

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis golf team posted an impressive 209 to record a 67 stroke victory over Elk Grove Monday at the Haggin Oaks Arcade Creek course.

“Kate had a fantastic round,” said Head Coach Cindy Mah-Lyford. “She was playing at the No. 4 spot but did not let that bother her. Maybe it added a little fire under her. Overall, we were real consistent from top to bottom. We have so many girls that can shoot in the low 40s and that is going to be the key to our success.”

The Troubadours were led by junior Kate Swanson, who posted a career-best tying one-over par 37.

“Posting a career-best is something that feels really good to accomplish,” said Swanson. “I was happy to do it today. It was a really good feeling. My short game improved today and I did not hit all the greens so putting and chipping became really important.”

Senior Victoria Ramirez shot a career-best tying four-over par 40 to rank second on the team.

“It felt really good because all of our scores are so close,” said Ramirez. “I hope I keep playing the same way.”

Junior Mikia Fang carded a 41 in the round, one stroke off her career best, while classmate Kristi Lee shot a 44. Junior Leslie Young posted a 47, while junior Caitlin Autry had a 51 on the day.

St. Francis hosts Grant on Sept. 29 at Haggin Oaks Arcade Creek in their next league match.
