ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Rising sophomore Olivia Alcoran was selected to play in the 2016 The First Tee Par-3 Championship at The Kanawha Club in Richmond, Va., June 21-26.

“I think it is a really cool honor,” said Alcoran. “It is a national honor and I am looking forward to meeting other players from around the country. I will be able to bring back some information on the rules presentations, speakers and leadership opportunities to the chapter.”

Alcoran will represent The First Tee of Greater Sacramento after being chosen to represent her chapter and then making the final cut for the tournament.

The First Tee Par-3 Championship is a 36-hole individual stroke play golf competition at The Kanawha Club in Richmond, Va. Boys and girls will play in separate categories. At the conclusion of the 36 holes a boy and girl par-3 champion will be determined.

An 18-hole Territory Cup event will be played in a modified Ryder Cup format. The territory with the highest points value will be the winner and awarded the Territory Cup after the final round.

Participants also work on life skill development through dorm living, interaction with participants from around the country and guest speakers. By the end of the week they will have a better understanding of competitive golf rules and regulations and will be ready to act as leaders and role models for other participants at their local chapters.

Alcoran was an All-Delta League selection in her first season, posting a 41.4 scoring average in dual matches.
