Tennis Ties for Delta League Title with Win over Monterey Trail

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team closed the regular season with a 9-0 win over Monterey Trail and finished tied for Franklin for the Delta League title. It is the 27th league title in school history and first for the program since 2012.

St. Franics lost just five games in sweeping the six singles matches and dropped just six games in three doubles wins.

The Troubadours improved to 11-1 on the season in league play.

Senior Avery Spector was a winner at No. 1 singles, while Kiya Jackson and Kyla Jackson posted straight set wins at No. 2 and 3 singles, respectively. Annie Gianulias won at No. 4 singles and Abby Benevenuti posted a victory at No. 5. On senior day, Eden Elliott was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 6 singles.

Senior Izzy Samuel combined with Stephanie Fong to win at No. 1 doubles. Cece Crowley and Carmen Ocazionez were winners at No. 2. Julia Lucic and Sarha Morris posted a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3.

St. Francis will compete in the Delta League singles and doubles championships next week before beginning play in the Sac-Joaquin Section Championships.
