Golf Defeats Pleasant Grove in Dual

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Freshman Nashla Aguero shot a three-over 39 to tie for the low score for the team and help the team to a victory over Pleasant Grove in a Delta League dual match Wednesday at Haggin Oaks Arden Arcade court.

Aguero tied Sadia Sadiq of Pleasant Grove for the low round of the day.

St. Francis (2-0) remained undefeated in dual play with the nine-stroke victory. Sophomore Olivia Alcoran posted a 41, tying for third overall. Junior Lauren Allen recorded a 42.

Water Polo Posts League Win over Franklin

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Sally Ferguson had a goal and a team-best five assists to lead St. Francis to a 19-0 win over Franklin Tuesday afternoon at the Jesuit pool.

“We wanted to start off playing our style of water polo and we got the win,” said Ferguson. “We wanted to keep up the intensity and work on executing what we have been working on in practice.”

Volleyball Opens Delta League Play with Win

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Carly Simpson had 12 digs and scored 14 points on her serve as St. Francis posted a 3-0 win over Grant to open Delta League play on Monday.

“We executed really well, stayed focused and respected the other team,” said Simpson. “It was the big goal today to show respect by playing 100 percent and not letting our play go down.”

St. Francis, coming off a third-place finish in the Chris Craft Invite over the weekend, won in straight sets 25-9, 25-6, 25-10.

Volleyball Finishes Third at Chris Craft Invite

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Volleyball finished third at the Chris Craft Invitational on Saturday. The Troubadours had victories over Bella Vista, Vista del Lago and Marin Catholic. SF lost to Presentation in their opener and in the semifinals.

Three Water Polo Standouts Earn Academic All-America Honors

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – Senior Aubree Barr was among three current and former St. Francis water polo players earned Academic All-America honors from USA Water Polo, the organization announced. Student-athletes needed a 3.6 GPA on a scale of 4.0 to qualify and those that received a 4.0 GPA were honored as outstanding achievers. 

“It shows that I am dedicated in the classroom, working hard outside practice and games,” said Barr. “I put a lot of effort and time into succeeding in whatever I do. Whether it is school or water polo, I want to succeed.”

JV Water Polo Defeats McClatchy

Abbey Berg scored five goals to lead St. Francis to a 13-3 victory over McClatchy. Kate Watley have five saves in earn TroubieTV Player of the Game. Allie Belafsky and Sarah Mudd, added two goals for the Troubies. Other goal scorers included sophomore Jordan Weidman, freshman Hannah Dorsey, sophomore Reagan Garcia and freshman Karla Guerrero.

St. Francis took the early lead 2-0 in the first quarter and extended the lead to 5-2. The Troubadours scored three times in the third and fifth in the fourth to record the victory.

Water Polo Gets 12-4 Win over McClatchy

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Four players scored two goals each and senior goalie Maddy Vine made nine saves as St. Francis posted a 12-4 victory over McClatchy Friday night.

“I am happy with the win,” said Head Coach Heather Moody. “I feel like we still have some things to work on, including our spacing offensively and our passing. We have to get our passing down a little more so we can get our 6-on-5 to score. Overall, it was nice and everyone hit the water.”

Volleyball Match on Access Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The El Camino match was broadcast by Access Sacramento for the Home Town Sports Game-of-the-Week. The taped telecast may be seen on Friday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. on Comcast Cable Channel 17, Consolidated Communications Channel 17 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 14. The match will be replayed Saturday, Sept. 10 at 11 a.m. and Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m.

Tennis Opens Delta League Play with Win

ELK GROVE, Calif. – St. Francis won the Delta League opener with a 9-0 sweep of Pleasant Grove on Thursday. St. Francis swept all six singles matches in straight sets and repeated the feat in doubles to record a perfect opening match.

Volleyball Defeats El Camino in 4 Sets

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball team closed out El Camino in four sets in the final league tune-up Thursday night. The Troubadours won 25-22, 25-15, 30-32 and 25-16 to post their second consecutive win of the week and improve to 7-4 overall.

“It was our game and we knew we needed to pick it up,” said freshman Alexa Edwards, who was named the Player of the Game by the Access Sacramento broadcast crew. “We really focused on the little things like our passing and hitting. That is what led us to the win.”

Golf Opens Delta League Play

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomores Olivia Alcoran and Patricia Sweeney each carded a three-over par 39 to lead the St. Francis golf team to a win over Monterey Trail Wednesday at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex. The Troubadours posted a 203 team score but won the match by forfeit.

“It was pretty good for the first round,” said Alcoran. “I was doing really well with my putting and chipping and everything clicked today.”

Fall TroubieTV Schedule Announced

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The 2016 TroubieTV schedule will include broadcasts from volleyball, water polo and golf during the fall schedule announced Wednesday.

The water polo match against McClatchy for the varsity and junior varsity units will be shown Friday afternoon to tipoff the fall season. The freshman volleyball match against Elk Grove on Sept. 21 will showcase the first of several volleyball broadcasts.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. –  The St. Francis water polo team defeated Palo Alto High School and lost a tight 9-8 contest against Archbishop Mitty among four games in the Saint Francis Autumn Invitational over the weekend.

Volleyball Finishes 11th at High Sierra

RENO, Nev. – The St. Francis volleyball team finished 11th overall at the High Sierra Invitational over the weekend, posting a 5-2 overall record in advancing to the Silver Bracket semifinals.

The Troubadours were perfect on Friday, recording a 3-0 pool play record with wins over Faith Lutheran (2-1), Enterprise (2-0) and Spanish Springs (2-0). SF opened with a 2-1 loss to Nevada Union in a tight three-set battle with saw the teams split the first two sets before Nevada Union won 17-15 in the third.

Volleyball Drops Holy Court Matchup in Five Sets

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball team fell in five sets to rival Christian Brothers in the annual Holy Court matchup in front of a sold out crowd. The Falcons rallied from a two-set deficit to win in five sets 22-25, 20-25, 25-19, 25-20, 16-14.

“It was a great match,” said Head Coach Alynn Wright. “Christian Brothers played relentless defense. They out-played us defensively and defense is what wins. At times we were tentative with our swings but all in all there were moments of great play and moments of nerves.”

St. Francis Named NFHS Network Select School for TroubieTV

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis Catholic High School has earned recognition as one of 88 schools of distinction from the NFHS Network for the efforts of the Sports Media Club in producing TroubieTV.

TroubieTV produced 58 events in 2015-16 including games and contests from the sports of basketball, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, volleyball and water polo. They also showcased the three St. Francis National Letter-of-Intent celebrations, the Homecoming Pep Rally and International Night among the other broadcasts.

Holy Court Ticket Sales Start Saturday, August 20

Holy Court ticket sales for St. Francis students, parents, fans and alumna will open on Saturday, August 20 at 6 a.m. (Limit 2 per person). A passcode will be sent to your St. Francis student’s email account on Friday to access the tickets. Tickets are $7 with a $1 processing fee. Tickets must be printed out or downloaded to your phone to be scanned at the gate.

Holy Court will be played on Tuesday, August 30 at St. Francis starting with the freshman contest at 4:30 p.m. The junior varsity teams will play at 5:30 p.m., followed by the varsity match at 6:30 p.m.
