Tennis Advances to Section Semis

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team won four three-set matches  to propel the Troubadours into the Sac-Joaquin Section semifinals with a 7-2 win over Rocklin Monday afternoon at the Rio del Oro Racquet Club.

St. Francis opened the match with a pair of 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles by Marisa Fat and Annie Gianulias, respectively. In doubles, senior Abby Benvenuti and Sabrina Voeller gave SF the 3-2 lead with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 at the top spot. But the match was decided by four matches that went three sets, including two singles and two doubles.

St. Francis Senior Reginato to Sign with San Diego State

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis senior Grace Reginato started a new sport in the eighth grade. Five years later it part of her daily life and she will sign this week with the San Diego State Aztec Rowing program.

“When I was in the eighth grade, I thought I would do it for high school,” said Reginato of her crew career. “I did not decide until last year I wanted to do it in college. Being a student-athlete sounds so hard but now I could not imagine my life without it. It is the main reason for my day and I look forward to going to practice.”

Cross Country Places First at Subsections

FROGTOWN, Calif. – The St. Francis cross country team won the Sac-Joaquin Subsection Division 2 meet to advance to the sections next week, scoring 67 points to defeat Vacaville (84).

Freshman Isabella Fauria and junior Sydney Vandegrift paced the team, finishing in a virtual tie in eighth overall in 19:22. Sophomore Sophie DeBenedetti was the third Troubadour across the line (19:52) with freshman Haley Silva just four second back. Freshman classmate Emma Hollenbach was 21st overall. Alana Reyna (35th, 20:51) and Allie Lourim (46th, 21:12) closed out the varsity top seven.

This Week in Troubie Sports…

As the Fall playoffs continue, winter sports soccer and basketball begin tryouts this week. All student-athletes must have a physical on file before participating on Monday. Cross Country runs in the Sac-Joaquin Sections on Saturday for the chance to go to the state meet. Tennis, Volleyball and Water Polo look to continue deep playoff runs. The first National Letter of Intent signing celebration will be held on Wednesday, Nov.

2016 Soccer Highlights

  • St. Francis finished with a 14-4-4 overall record, losing to No. 4 Woodcreek in the Sac-Joaquin Section quarterfinals.  The Troubadours defeated Pitman 2-1 in the opening round.
  • St. Francis was 7-3-4 in Delta League play, finishing third overall in the team standings.
  • Senior Hailey Barrett led the team with 11 goals and six assists. Freshman Janae DeFazio added eight goals and a team-best eight assists.
  • The Troubie had three players selected to the All-Delta League team, including Barrett, Ashley Newland and junior Savannah Tijerino-Santos.

Booster Club Award Winners Announced

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Five student-athletes were recipients of the Booster Club Awards on Wednesday at the St. Francis Awards Ceremony.

Tennis and soccer player Avery Spector and volleyball player Nina Sanfilippo were the Booster Club Leadership Award winners. The recognition is given to the student or students who demonstrate leadership in athletics.

2015 Golf Highlights

  • St. Francis finished fourth at the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Tournament. The Troubadours shot a 459 team score to tie with Vista del Lago for fourth place overall. Granite Bay was the top qualifier with a 406 followed by Oak Ridge at 422 and Rocklin at 450. Seniors Kristi Lee and Mikia Fang led the team with identical rounds of 15-over par 87.

2015 Tennis Highlights

  • The Troubadour tennis team advanced to the Sac-Joaquin Section semifinals. They advanced with wins over Vacaville (9-0) and Del Oro (5-4).
  • The team posted a 15-2 overall record under Kristi Spector, including an 11-1 Delta League mark to finish tied for first with Franklin. It was the first league title since 2012.
  • St. Francis senior Avery Spector was named the Delta League Most Valuable Player by a vote of the coaches and earned all-league honors for the third consecutive season. Spector finished the season with a 13-4 dual match record and 17-5 overall mark.

2015 Diving Season Highlights

  • Freshman Julia Coss competed at the first CIF State Swimming and Diving Championships held at Clovis West High School and finished 22nd overall.
  • Coss finished third and earned a berth in the first CIF State Diving Championships to be held May 22 at Clovis West High School. She was one of five divers who competed at the Sac-Joaquin Section finals Saturday at Buchanan High School, the most of any school in the section.

2015 Swimming Highlights

  • Juniors Emily Peters and Chloe Mitchell both qualified for the first CIF State Championships and the St. Francis swimming team placed fourth overall in the varsity meet at the Sac-Joaquin Section Swimming Championships held at Tokay High School.
  • Peters swam in the 50-meter freestyle and clocked a time of 24.24 to finish 22nd overall.
  • Peters qualified to swim at the first CIF state championships in the 50 freestyle after her sixth-place finish in time of 24.29.

2015 Lacrosse Highlights

  • St. Francis finished the season with a 7-10 overall record and 4-6 overall in the Sacramento Valley Lacrosse League (fourth). The Troubadours finished the season ranked No. 20 in the North Coast Section and No. 7 in Division I by LaxPower.
  • St. Francis placed six players on the Sacramento Valley Lacrosse Conference All-League team, including first-team selections Ryleigh Bone for the second consecutive season.
  • Bone, who is from Granite Bay, was second on the team with 35 goals, nine assists and 44 points.

2015 Softball Highlights

  • The St. Francis softball team advanced to the double-elimination second round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Playoffs. The Troubadours opened with a 9-7 win over McClatchy before losing to Bella Vista (12-8) and River City (8-4). Overall, St. Francis went 16-14 and 9-5 in the Delta League to finish third overall.
  • Senior Danika Bailey was named the Delta League Co-Player of the Year. The Cal signee hit a league-best .642, an average that ranked among the Top 100 players in the country and fifth-best in the section, with a .660 average in league play.

The Troubadour tennis team advanced to the Sac-Joaquin Section quarterfinals for the second consecutive season before losing 5-4 at St. Mary’s. They team advanced in the playoffs with wins over Franklin (S) and Gregori of Modesto.

The team posted a 14-4 overall record under Kristi Spector, including a 10-2 Delta League mark to finish second.

  • St. Francis advanced to the Sac-Joaquin Section semifinals before losing to eventual state runner-up Pitman. They were the No. 4 seed overall entering the tournament.
  • The Troubadours posted a 30-12 overall record under Head Coach Alynn Wright, who coached her 26th season at St. Francis. St.

  • St. Francis finished sixth at the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Tournament. Junior Kate Swanson and freshman Chase Saca tied for team-best honors with rounds of 88. The Troubadours advanced to the Masters with a fourth-place finish at the Division I tournament.
  • Senior Victoria Ramirez was a three-year member of the varsity team. She carded a person-best three-over par 39 against Monterey Trail on Oct. 13.
  • St. Francis went 6-1 in the inaugural season of the revamped Delta League, placing second overall.

  • St. Francis advanced to the North Coast Section playoffs and lost in the first round at Granite Bay. The Troubadours finished the season with a 9-10 overall record.
  • St. Francis placed six players on the Sacramento Valley Lacrosse Conference All-League team, including three first-team selections. Juniors Hayley Kusserow, Ryleigh Bone and Erika Palmer were all first-team selections as selected by the league coaches.
  • Kusserow led the team in scoring with 57 goals and was named the team’s Most Valuable Attacker.

2014 Soccer Highlights

  • The St. Francis soccer team earned the No. 1 ranking in the state of California and No. 17 national ranking by MaxPreps following their Sac-Joaquin Section win. 
  • St. Francis won their 13th section title in school history and first since 2010 with a 1-0 win over Oak Ridge. The Troubadours finished a 21-3-5 season with a postseason run that included wins over Armijo (4-2), Enochs (5-4), Granite Bay (1-0) and Oak Ridge (1-0) in the SJS playoffs.
  • Junior Anna Gregg was the Co-Player of the Year in the Delta River League, helping St.

  • St. Francis advanced to both the CIF State Volleyball Nor Cal and Sac-Joaquin Section Finals before losing to eventual state champion Granite Bay in each match. They were the No. 2 seed in both brackets.
  • The Troubadours posted a 34-9 overall record under Head Coach Alynn Wright, who celebrated her 25th season directing the St. Francis program.
  • The Troubadours won the Delta River League title with a perfect 10-0 record, winning the league title for the 16th consecutive season.

2013 Water Polo Highlights

  • St. Francis advanced to the Sac-Joaquin Section Finals before losing to Davis in the first season under former Olympian and USA Water Polo Player of the Year Heather Moody. The Troubadours went 18-13 on the season.
  • Three St. Francis water polo players garnered Academic All-America honors from USA Water Polo with outstanding achievement designation for qualifying with a 4.0 GPA or better.

  • St. Francis finished eighth at the NCGA/CIF Girls Nor Cal Championship. The Troubadours advanced with a third-place finish at Masters.
  • Head Coach Cindy Mah-Lyford was named the Northern California Girls’ Golf Coach of the Year by the California Coaches’ Association.
  • Senior Ileana MacDonald shot a team-best six-over par 78 to lead St. Francis to the Sac-Joaquin Division I North Section title for the eighth consecutive season at Rocklin Golf Club.

  • The Troubadours had nine varsity event winners at the Delta River League Championships, earning each individual All-League honors.

2014 Diving Highlights

  • Senior Allison Autrey finished seventh and junior Patty Sullivan was ninth at the Sac-Joaquin Section Diving Finals contested at McClatchy High School.
  • Sullivan won the Delta River League individual title, scoring a 375.25 to claim the individual league diving title and earn All-DRL honors.
  • Sullivan also won the St. Mary’s Invitational on April 11 in Stockton.
  • Autrey signed to compete for UC Davis in the fall.
