Golf Wins Final Center Match, Claims Delta League Title

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Seniors Kate Swanson and Mikia Fang both shot eight-over par rounds of 80 to finish second and help St. Francis to the team win at the third Delta League Center match at Haggin Oaks Arcade course on Monday.

“The team did a great job all year,” said Head Coach Cindy Mah-Lyford. “I had the perfect coaching job this year because I had so many girls that were close in ability. It kept them competitive to gain a position in the starting lineup.”

Swanson Finishes Fifth as Golf Wins Delta Center Match

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Kate Swanson and sophomore Lauren Allen tied for team-best honors with a nine-over par 81 as the St. Francis golf team won the second Delta League Center match at Wildhawk Golf Club on Monday.

St. Francis remained undefeated on the season with the 25-stroke victory over second-place Pleasant Grove (436). Davis was third at 442, while Elk Grove shot a 486 team score.

Swanson and Allen placed fifth overall in the individual standings. Both players made the turn at two-over par before closing with identical back nine scores of 43.

Senior Kristi Lee Ties for Medalist Honors Versus Franklin

STOCKTON, Calif. – Senior Kristi Lee posted a team-best 40 Monday to lead St. Francis to a dual match victory over Franklin at The Reserve at Spanos Park.

Lee has led or tied for team-best honors in five straight matches, helping the Troubadours to a perfect 6-0 mark in dual play.

Lee was one-under par thru her first five holes Monday, birdieing the par-five second hole.

Golf Defeats Sheldon by Forfeit

ELK GROVE, Calif. – St. Francis continued its strong play in preparation for next week’s dual match against Franklin at The Reserve in Stockton. Senior Kristi Lee led the team for the second consecutive match, shooting a three-over par 39. Freshman Olivia Alcoran was second on the team with a 40 and sophomore Chase Saca carded a 43.

Senior Kate Swanson recorded a 45, while freshman Patricia Sweeney and sophomore Lauren Liberatore posted rounds of 46.

Golf Defeats Elk Grove

ELK GROVE, Calif. – Three players posted rounds of five-over par 41 as St. Francis posted a 208-252 win over Elk Grove on Monday at Wildhawk Golf Course.

Seniors Makia Fang and Kristi Lee and freshman Olivia Alcoran each carded rounds of 41 to pace the Troubadours. Sophomore Lauren Liberatore recorded a 43 and sophomore Chase Saca had a 46.

St. Francis remained undefeated on the season and plays Grant on Monday, Sept. 28.

Golf Team Wins Again over Grant

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Kristi Lee carded a three-over par 39 to lead the St. Francis golf team to a 209 team score in a dual match with Grant Monday at Haggin Oaks Arcade Course.

“Overall it is going pretty well,” said Lee. “I have been working on the small things.”

Lee recorded six pars and three bogies for a round that was just a shot off her career best.

“Even when I missed shots, I was able to get up and down for par,” said Lee. “Overall, it was a really good round and very consistent. I was very happy about that.”

Golf Defeats Davis in League Dual Match

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Seniors Mikia Fang and Kristi Lee tied for medalist honors with two-over par rounds of 38 to lead St. Francis to a victory over Davis in a Delta League dual match Wednesday at Haggin Oaks Arcade course.

“We have a strong team this year,” said Fang, who was paired with Lee for their round today. “I played with Kristi in our last qualifying round. We both had scores and we pushed each other to do well again today.

Fang and Lee both carded season-best rounds to tie for low round of the match with Marie Dean of Davis.

Golf Wins First Delta League Center Match

ELK GROVE, Calif. – Sophomore Chase Saca and senior Kristi Lee both carded six-over par rounds of 82 to lead St. Francis to a 57-stroke victory in the first Delta League Center match at Wildhawk golf course on Monday.

Saca and Lee tied for third overall behind Marie Dean of Davis, who shot a four-over par 76. Courtney Cervelin of Franklin posted a 78 to place second in the field.

The Troubadours five-player total of 417 easily out-distanced Elk Grove (474) and Davis (482).

Freshman Alcoran Leads Golf to Win in League Opener

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – Freshman Olivia Alcoran shot a five-over par 41 to lead St. Francis to dual match victory over Pleasant Grove to open Delta League play Wednesday at Morgan Creek Golf Club.

The Troubadours posted five of the top six scores in the match led by Alcoran in her first high school match. Seniors Kate Swanson and Makia Fang were one stroke back with rounds of 42, while sophomore Chase Saca and senior Kristi Lee each carded rounds of 45. Sophomore Lauren Allen posted a score of 50.

Troubie Trio Help Gonzaga at NCAA Rowing

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Cherie Murbach ’14, Heather Handy ‘14 and Madeleine Vespieren ‘12 competed for Gonzaga in the NCAA Rowing Championships held on Lake Natoma this past weekend.

Murbach, who competed in water polo and track at St. Francis, Handy (golf) and Vespieren (tennis) were on the Second Varsity 8 for the Zags and helped the team to a 17th-place overall finish. It was the second NCAA appearance in school history after the team won the West Coast Conference title.

Alumna Mao Leads Virginia to ACC Golf Title

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Led by St. Francis Alumna Briana Mao, the University of Virginia women’s golf won their first ever ACC title in record fashion, setting the 54-hole ACC tournament record of 27-under par Tuesday. They beat their closest competitor, Duke University (the No. 5-ranked team in the Nation and the defending National Champion), by 26 strokes.  This is the first time a non-Carolina school has won the ACC title.

2014 Golf Highlights

  • St. Francis finished sixth at the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Tournament. Junior Kate Swanson and freshman Chase Saca tied for team-best honors with rounds of 88. The Troubadours advanced to the Masters with a fourth-place finish at the Division I tournament.
  • Senior Victoria Ramirez was a three-year member of the varsity team. She carded a person-best three-over par 39 against Monterey Trail on Oct. 13.
  • St. Francis went 6-1 in the inaugural season of the revamped Delta League, placing second overall.

Golf Advances to Section Master’s with Fourth-Place Finish

FAIR OAKS, Calif. – The St. Francis golf team advanced to the Sac-Joaquin Section Master’s with a fourth-place finish at the Division I North tournament Monday at North Ridge Country Club.

The Troubadours posted a 455 team score led by junior Kate Swanson, edging Rocklin (463) and Pleasant Grove (470). Oak Ridge won the team title by five strokes over Davis (426) and Granite Bay (446). The top four teams and six individuals will play in the Master’s event on Monday at The Reserve as Spanos Park in Stockton.

The St. Francis Golf team celebrated their 2014 season with a banquet on campus Saturday. Kate Swanson was named team MVP, Mikia Fang was the recipient of the Most Improved and Caitlin Autry received the Sportsmanship Award.

Golf at Division I North Section Photo Gallery

The St. Francis golf team shot a 459 team score to finish sixth at the Sac-Joaquin Masters Monday at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton. The Troubadours failed to advance to the NorCal Championships, the third round of the sections playoffs.
