Volleyball Sweeps Christian Brothers in Holy Court

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball team swept Christian Brothers 25-14, 25-13, 25-14 to take the annual Holy Court matchup in front of a sold out St. Francis Gym and live local television audience.

“I am really proud of the way they played,” said Head Coach Alynn Wright. “They played for each other, focused and let things run off their back and focus on the next ball. We only gave up two runs of three in the entire match.”

The Troubadours received strong support from the pro-Troubie crowd.


Holy Court Match on Access Sacramento and Online

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Access Sacramento will broadcast the annual matchup between St. Francis and Christian Brothers live Friday, Sept. 7 on local cable, while streaming online. The match sold out last week.

The match may be seen on Access Sacramento on Comcast Cable channel 17, Consolidated Communications channel 17, and AT&T U-Verse channel 14.  The game will also be streamed live on, and on the NFHS Network. 


Get to Know: #6 Sam Chavez

Sam Chavez is in her second season with the varsity team and is a captain for the team this season. She has committed to play volleyball at CSU-Monterey Bay next fall. She hopes to study business and management while playing for the Otters. Her family nickname is Goose. 


Tennis Opens League Play with Sweep

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The defending Delta League and Sac-Joaquin Section champion St. Francis tennis team opened league play with a 9-0 sweep over Franklin on Tuesday.

The Troubadours got straight set singles win by Myra Anwar, sophomore Alisha Anwar, junior Adithi Benush, sophomore Izzy Asker, junior Sam Sonntag and sophomore Alex Evans. Four of the six matches were won without dropping a game.

The Troubles had similar success in doubles, sweeping the three matches. Freshman Safaa Umar and senior Roya Pahlavan paired for a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 to lead the team.


Volleyball Opens Delta League with 3-0 Sweep over Davis

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Malia Berry had 10 kills without an error among three players with double-digit kills as the defending Delta League champions opened with a 3-0 win over Davis Tuesday night 25-21, 25-19, 25-21.

“I feel like we did really well covering our hitters and made sure we had the first side out,” said Berry. “But I feel like we could definitely improve some more.”

Berry recorded her third career game with double-digit kills and second-best single match total of her career (12 vs. Rocklin in 2017).


JV Volleyball Wins CIVT Preseason Tournament

McCLELLAN PARK, Calif. – The St. Francis junior varsity volleyball team won the CIVT Preseason Tournament by defeating Granite Bay in the finals 26-24, 25-16.

The Troubadours reached the finals with a win over Colusa 25-15, 25-12 in the semifinals and Rocklin the quarterfinals 23-25, 25-11, 15-9.

The Troubies went 3-0 in pool play with straight set wins over Rodrigiez (25-11, 25-9), Amador (25-5, 25-15) and Del Campo (25-9, 25-14).

Head Coach Taryn Wright’s team is 9-0 on the season and has dropped just one set overall (18-1).


Volleyball Has Big Day in Reno, Advances to High Sierra Semifinals

RENO, Nev. – The St. Francis volleyball team advanced to the High Sierra Invitational semifinals on Saturday before losing in two sets to Bishop Gorman (Nev.) in the Gold bracket.

The Troubies won seven straight matches in pool play. St. Francis opened play on Friday with wins over Rocklin (25-19, 25-21), Woodcreek (25-11, 25-16) and Spanish Springs (25-10, 25-11) to take Pool 2. The win over Rocklin avenged a five-set loss last Tuesday to the Thunder.

Golf Wins Delta League Opener over Elk Grove

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Haanya Niazi shot a two-over par 38 to tie for medalist honors and help St. Francis post a 198 team score against Elk Grove in the Delta League opener for both teams at Haggin Oaks.

Niazi, who shot an even-par 36 in the qualifier, bogeyed the first, third and fourth holes and posted a birdie on the eighth along with four pars to record a competitive personal-best 38 in her first competitive prep round. She shot a 47 in her only action as a freshman.


Tennis Defeats Folsom, Granite Bay to Take NorCal Title

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team defeated Granite Bay Saturday 7-1 at Johnson Ranch Racquet Club to take the NorCal Tournament title. SF advanced to the finals with a 6-2 win over Folsom Saturday morning.

Sophomore Alisha Anwar posted two victories on the day, including a come-from-behind three-set win at No. 2 in the semifinalsover Ava Brown. Senior Myra Anwar was a straight-set winner in both of her matches and Adihi Benush tallied two victories at No. 3.


Tennis Opens NorCal Tournament with a 9-0 Win

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team opened the season with a 9-0 win over St. Mary’s on Friday. The Troubadours swept all six singles and three doubles matches in straight sets.

No. 1 Myra Anwar, No. 5 Sam Sonntag and No. 6 Alex Evans all won their matches, dropping just a single game in the two-set wins. Alisha Anwar was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at No. 2 over Izzy Garcia, while Adithi Benush defeated Lauren Basso 6-1, 6-2. Izzy Asker posted a 6-1, 6-3 win over Taylor Basso.


Golfer Patricia Sweeney Named Triple-Impact Finalist

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior golfer Patricia Sweeney has been named a Positive Coaching Alliance Triple Impact Competitor Award Finalists.  This award recognizes student athletes that embody the PCA principles of ”Making oneself Better, Making Teammates Better, and Making their Community Better”

Congratulations to the below listed finalists (listed by Chapter) who embody the Triple-Impact Competitor® model of making themselves, their team and their sport better by their behavior in and out of sport. The winner’s will be named later in the school year.


Holy Court Ticket Sales Start Saturday, August 25

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Holy Court ticket sales to St. Francis students, parents, fans and alumnae will open on Saturday, August 25 at 6 a.m. (Limit 2 per person). A passcode will be sent to your St. Francis student email account on Friday, August 24 to access the tickets. Tickets are $7 with a $1 service charge.

Holy Court, our annual rivalry game with Christian Brothers, will be played on Friday, Sept. 7 at St. Francis starting with the freshman contest at 4:30 p.m. The junior varsity teams will play at 5:30 p.m., followed by the varsity match at 6:30 p.m.

Alumna Carpenter Named NISCA/Speedo Girls Water Polo All-American

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Alumna Kobe Carpenter ’18 has been named to the 2017-18 NISCA/ Speedo Girls Water Polo All-America team announced this week.

Carpenter was named to the Sac-Joaquin Section first team. She ranked fourth on the team in goals with 25 and recorded 46 points on the season. Sophomores Caroline Wilkins and Kendall Houck were second-team selections. Houck led the team in the goals with 44 and totaled a team-best 82 points. Wilsons was second on the team with 37 goals and 63 points.


Golfer Olivia Alcoran Selected to Play in 2018 PURE Insurance Championship

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis rising senior Olivia Alcoran has been selected to participate in the 2018 PURE Insurance Championship Impacting The First Tee tournament at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach from Sept. 25 – Sept. 30, 2018.


Soccer’s Porter and Berry Earn United Soccer Coaches All-Region Honors

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Rising senior Lindsey Porter and rising junior Marli Berry were named to the 2018 United Soccer Coaches All-West Region team announced this week.

Porter, who has committed to UC-Santa Barbara, led the team in scoring as a junior. She totaled a team-best nine goals and eight assists with 26 points. She was named to the Delta League first team while ranking sixth in goals and fourth in assists and was named the team’s Offensive MVP and Golden Boot winner.
