After graduating from the University of San Diego School of Law in 2012, Le-Mai practiced law in the private sector for five years, practicing securities litigation and civil litigation. In 2017, she joined the City of San Diego, defending city departments against civil actions. After moving back to Northern California in 2019, she joined the Attorney General’s office in San Francisco and now Sacramento, where she defends lawsuits brought by California inmates, and specializes in prison gang cases.
