SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Lauren Craig had 16 points and 14 rebounds to lead St. Francis to a 52-21 Senior Night win over Monterey Trail Friday night. The win secured third place for the Troubadours in the Delta League and a berth in the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs.

“It was nice and reassuring (entering the playoffs),” said senior Maureen Cobile. “We have a good streak going right now and we have some momentum which will help us in the playoffs.”

The Troubadours improved to 18-7, 8-5 in league play with their fourth straight win. The team’s four seniors were honored in a pregame ceremony.

“It was really exciting,” said senior Katy Glime. “It is bittersweet because it is the end but it is fun.”

St. Francis built an early 14-8 lead in the first quarter behind three baskets by Craig. They extended the advantage to 24-11 at the break as five different players made baskets in the second while holding the Mustangs to just three points.

“It felt awesome,” said Katy Glime. “It was fun to come out in possibly our last game at St. Francis and pull out the win as a team.”

The Troubadouts extended the lead in the second half, closing the game with a 17-point fourth quarter. Sophomore Janae Fairbrook scored nine of her 12 points in the second half, including seven in the fourth. Overall, 10 players scored in the game.

“It was a good way to end our last home game here,” said Cobile. “I am going to really miss it.”

St. Francis closes the regular season on Tuesday at Grant with a 7 p.m. tipoff against the Pacers. Sac-Joaquin Section playoff brackets will be announced on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
