SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Brinnley Barthels and junior Lauren Charter both were named to the CIF Sac-Joaquin All-Section water polo first- team and were among four Troubadours overall earning section honors.

Charter tied for third on the team with 28 goals with a team-best 18 assists and a team-best 47 steals during the season. She averaged 1.48 points per game, the second-best average on the team.

“From August to the end of the season, I think Lauren stepped up huge,” said Head Coach Heather Moody. “She filled a void we needed with a solid consistent player both offensively and defensively. It was really exciting to see her improvement.”

Barthels tied for the team lead with 35 goals on the season, scoring a team-best 50 points while recording 25 steals. She scored a team-best 1.17 goals per game in 30 games on the season.

“Brinnley stepped up immensely this season and I was super stoked,” said Moody. “We wish her all the best.”

Sophomore Maggie Oys and senior Marisa Zanobini were both named to the second team.

Oys scored 28 goals and added 16 assists on the season.

“Maggie played huge minutes for us and was an offensive threat and defender,” said Moody. “I am excited to have her part of the program for the next two years and watching her development will be exciting.”

Zanobini scored 18 goals and recorded 14 assists, ranking fifth on the team in both categories.

“Marisa did a great job as a team captain and leader of the group,” said Moody. “She took some huge shots and scored in some big moments. She is also a very solid and smart defensive player.”

All four student-athletes also earned Delta Valley League honors.
St. Francis advanced to the Sac-Joaquin Section finals, posting an 18-13 overall record.
